Stable Windows 11 is supported, but Windows 11 Insider Preview builds are not guaranteed to be. Activision’s Warzone requirements explicitly warn that trial, beta and Insider versions of compatible Windows editions may not be supported. If Modern Warfare II or Warzone stopped launching, crashing or connecting after you joined Insider, return to a publicly released Windows 11 build before reinstalling the game or changing security settings.
Activision’s general troubleshooting pages list Windows 10 and Windows 11 support, but that does not override the more specific Insider warning. See the Warzone PC requirements, Modern Warfare II troubleshooting and Warzone troubleshooting.
Check whether Windows is an Insider build
First confirm the operating-system build instead of guessing from the desktop or Windows Update status.

winverand press Enter. - Record the Windows edition, version and OS build. You can also open Settings > System > About.
A preview build can be newer than the public release and still be outside Activision’s compatibility guarantee. Symptoms can include no launch, an immediate close from Battle.net or Steam, crashes during shader compilation, a freeze at the splash screen or menu, a crash when entering multiplayer or Warzone, graphics-driver failures, anti-cheat errors and damaged-file messages. Those symptoms also have ordinary driver, file, security and hardware causes, so the timing of the Windows change matters.

The highest-confidence fix: return to production Windows 11
If the games worked before the PC entered Insider and failed afterward, preview-build compatibility is the leading suspect. Activision says Insider versions may not be supported; that does not mean every preview build breaks the games, but it does mean Activision is not promising that they will work.
Use Microsoft’s opt-out path
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Open Windows Insider Program.
- Choose Stop getting preview builds and follow the prompts.
Microsoft explains that Insider builds are less stable than production releases, are serviced differently and eventually expire. Stopping preview builds may only take effect when the PC reaches a production build; it does not necessarily convert the current installation immediately. When opt-out cannot transition the current build
Back up personal files, game saves and authentication data before recovery. If the current preview cannot move cleanly to a production release, use the appropriate Windows recovery image or a clean installation as described by Microsoft. A rollback to an earlier build is not the same as leaving Insider: Microsoft warns that the device can continue receiving preview builds unless the Insider setting is also changed. For a reliable gaming machine, use a supported production Windows 11 release. Although Activision lists Windows 10 in Warzone’s requirements, Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, so it is not the preferred long-term fallback.

If you are already on stable Windows 11
Use this order so you do not spend hours reinstalling a game when the real problem is a prerequisite or conflicting utility.
1. Install Windows updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
A preview build can be “up to date” while still unsupported; this step assumes a public Windows release.
2. Check Warzone’s firmware requirements
Activision’s Warzone requirements, updated March 11, 2026, require TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. These are firmware and security prerequisites, not graphics options. If Warzone reports a related error, check Windows Security and your motherboard or PC manufacturer’s UEFI instructions. Enable the settings carefully and back up important data first. They can address a prerequisite failure, but they will not make an unsupported Insider build supported.

3. Update the graphics driver
Use the driver appropriate to your GPU and Windows release. Activision’s Warzone troubleshooting page showed these versions when checked on August 18, 2026: AMD 25.12.1; NVIDIA desktop 591.59; NVIDIA workstation 582.08; NVIDIA notebook 591.59; and Intel 32.0.101.8531. These are dated references, not permanent recommendations. Check the current page before installing.

Activision also notes that official Game Ready support has ended for NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal architectures and lists a last recommended driver for those cards. Older hardware may therefore have a separate compatibility limitation.
4. Repair the game installation
- Battle.net: open the game’s options and choose Scan and Repair.
- Steam: open the game’s Properties and use Verify integrity of game files.
Do this after recording whether the failure began with an Insider update. Repairing missing files cannot correct an operating-system compatibility problem.
5. Let shader preloading finish
For Modern Warfare II, launch the game and leave it at the main menu until shader preloading completes. Activision says leaving the menu interrupts the process and can cause performance problems. Do not repeatedly cancel and restart it unless the process is clearly frozen.
6. Remove software conflicts temporarily
Activision identifies antivirus interference, overlays, input remappers, recording tools, Razer Synapse, NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner and Razer Cortex as possible causes of launch or stability problems.

- Update Razer Synapse and disable the named utilities and overlays for a controlled test.
- Add an exception only for the official game installation folder if antivirus is blocking it.
- Restore normal antivirus and security settings immediately after testing; do not disable protection permanently.
- If the game works with startup software disabled, use a Windows clean boot to identify the conflicting service.
7. Restore ASLR if it was disabled
Activision says Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) should be enabled when the game will not start. If a security tool or manual setting changed Windows Exploit Protection, restore the default protection setting for the affected game. Avoid unverified registry commands, especially on an Insider build.
8. Report persistent crashes
After stable Windows, current drivers, prerequisites, file repair and conflict testing, submit the relevant PC crash report through Activision’s support pages: Modern Warfare II troubleshooting or Warzone troubleshooting.

The game worked until you joined Insider
Test on a production Windows 11 installation before replacing files or hardware. If the game works there, the result strongly supports an Insider compatibility problem, although it does not identify the exact Windows component that changed.
The game never worked on this PC
Check Warzone’s TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements, CPU and GPU compatibility, at least 8 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12-compatible system, a broadband connection and an SSD with 116 GB available at launch. Warzone’s requirements list 64-bit Windows 10 as minimum and 64-bit Windows 11 as recommended; those figures are Warzone-specific, not a complete Modern Warfare II specification. It crashes after the menu opens
Prioritize shader preloading, a suitable graphics-driver installation, overlays and recording tools, MSI Afterburner, NZXT CAM, Razer Cortex and Razer Synapse. Then test a clean boot and check whether ASLR was disabled.
It reports an anti-cheat or security error
Use production Windows, verify TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Warzone, update Windows and firmware, and remove modified files, injectors, macros or unofficial anti-cheat tools. A technical launch failure is not evidence of an account ban.
You want to remain on Insider
You can try a newer preview, an appropriate GPU driver, file repair and conflict testing, then report the problem. There is no guarantee that a later Insider build will restore compatibility. Staying enrolled means accepting Activision’s “may not be supported” status; production Windows is the practical choice for dependable access.

- Do not assume “Windows 11 supported” includes every Insider channel.
- Do not treat a newer preview build as automatically safer than the stable release.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus, Secure Boot, ASLR or other Windows protections.
- Do not download unofficial executables, launchers or anti-cheat bypasses.
- Do not reinstall Windows or change firmware without backing up personal data.
- Do not reinstall the game first when the failure began immediately after an operating-system preview update.
Bottom line
If Modern Warfare II or Warzone works on stable Windows 11 but fails on Windows 11 Insider Preview, the operating system is outside Activision’s support guarantee. Move to a production Windows build first; then update Windows and the GPU driver, verify Warzone’s security prerequisites, repair files, finish shader preloading and eliminate overlays or other conflicts. If the game never worked on the PC, investigate hardware, firmware, drivers and software conflicts rather than blaming Insider alone.
