The mid-season update added Multiplayer maps, modes and weapons to Modern Warfare III; a Zombies story mission and Dark Aether Rift; and Rebirth Island content and balance changes in Warzone. The official notes identify the release by season and date, but do not confirm “Update 1.43” as an official build number.
What was included in the May 1 update?
The update covered three distinct parts of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone. Activision’s Season 3 Reloaded overview, published April 24, 2024, announced the launch time and highlighted new content. The official MWIII Season 3 patch notes and MWIII and Warzone Season 3 patch notes provide the dated May 1 details.

What changed in MWIII Multiplayer?
Maps: Grime and Checkpoint
Grime is a medium-sized 6v6 map set in a derelict London dockside area. Checkpoint adapts the Stronghold area of Rebirth Island for 6v6 play. The adaptation closes the upper walkways and control tower, concentrating combat at ground level. Both maps were listed among the update’s Multiplayer additions in Activision’s overview and MWIII notes.

New rifle and Aftermarket Parts
The BAL-27 is a bullpup prototype assault rifle. Its first four shots fire more slowly and are designed for accuracy; keep holding the trigger and the rate of fire increases. The overview described the rifle as available through a new Season 3 Battle Pass sector. It also highlighted three Aftermarket Parts earned through mid-season weekly challenges:
- JAK Wardens for the Lockwood Mk2, enabling akimbo lever-action shotguns.
- JAK Patriot for the M16, converting it to full-auto.
- JAK Atlas Kit for the AMR9, converting it to a five-round-burst carbine.
How did weapon progression and balance change?
Weapon Prestige Camos
Weapon Prestige Camos added a per-weapon progression track earned through Weapon XP. Activision’s May 1 notes set the first camo, One Trick, at 150,000 Weapon XP. That number is the in-game unlock requirement stated in the 2024 notes, not a measured player statistic. See the MWIII patch notes for the progression details.

- ADAPT OR DIE IN A FIGHT AGAINST THE ULTIMATE THREAT
- Combat means making choices — different loadouts, different paths through the mission. Combat missions that provide more player choice. There is no one-size-fits-all solution – it is your choice whether to take the stealthy approach or go loud taking on any and all foes.
- One of the greatest collections of Multiplayer maps ever. Launching with new Ground War maps boasting innovative play spaces and the epic return and evolution of the popular War Mode
MWIII weapon and attachment tuning
The MWIII notes document a broad sandbox pass across weapons, attachments, perks and equipment. One example was an increase to minimum hipfire spread for the BP50, SVA 545, RAM-7, MTZ-556, Holger 556 and MCW. Other individual adjustments covered damage, recoil, aim-down-sight time, range and attachment statistics. Those are MWIII-specific changes; consult the dated May 1 section of the official MWIII notes for exact weapon-by-weapon values rather than inferring them from this summary.
Warzone weapon tuning
Warzone received its own set of balance changes, separate from MWIII Multiplayer. The May 1 notes, for example, reduced the RAM-9’s hipfire accuracy and slowed its ADS time; increased the Striker’s ADS speed and bullet velocity; reduced the WSP Swarm’s flinch resistance; and corrected an MORS optic misalignment. These are historical May 2024 adjustments, not evidence of weapon strength or recommendations for the current game. The complete Warzone details are in the dated section of the Warzone patch archive.

What was added to Modern Warfare Zombies?
Union and the Dark Aether Rift
The new story mission, Union, sends Operators with Ravenov to rescue Dr. Jansen. Completing the mission makes another Dark Aether Rift available through a hidden quest.
Acquisitions, Warlord and stash changes
- Three new acquisitions or schematics were listed: Dead Wire Detonators, Golden Mask Filter and Sergeant’s Beret.
- Rainmaker joined the Warlords at a fortress on Rahaa Island.
- Acquisition Stash capacity increased from 10 to 20.
- A successful exfil added schematic cooldown time to its reward.
These Zombies changes are detailed in the May 1 section of the MWIII patch notes.

What changed in Warzone and Rebirth Island?
Public event and loot features
- Heavy Armor Public Event: Players could carry more armor plates, raising health from 150 to 200 points for the rest of the match. This 150-to-200 figure describes the event mechanic in Raven Software’s 2024 notes, not a permanent health change.
- Utility Box: Resupplied ammunition, armor and equipment.
- Weapon Trade Station: Returned as a way to trade a weapon for one of lower rarity plus additional loot.
- Specialist Perk Package: A rare package that granted every available Warzone perk.
- Foresight: Revealed the locations of future gas circles.
Conditions, loadouts and other adjustments
Rebirth Island gained variable time-of-day and weather conditions. The update also included audio improvements and adjustments to existing features. In Loaded Resurgence, players could deploy with a chosen loadout. For the full list of Rebirth Island changes, consult the May 1 section of the official MWIII and Warzone notes.
Which fixes belong to May 1?
The May 1 MWIII notes include gameplay, progression and stability fixes, including fixes for weapon behavior, map interactions and progression. Warzone’s notes also list fixes and adjustments. For exact bug entries, use the dated patch-note sections rather than treating every item on either rolling archive as a launch-day fix. The archives also include entries dated May 3, May 8, May 9, May 14 and May 15, 2024.
Is “Update 1.43” the official version number?
The official sources cited here identify the release as Season 3 Reloaded and date it May 1, 2024; they do not verify “1.43” as an official build number. The May 1 update is therefore best identified by its season and release date. It is a historical patch: its weapon values and feature availability should not be read as a description of the game in 2026.
