It is a story premise, not evidence of a real nuclear incident.
Why is Hajin radioactive in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ?
In the game’s story, a reactor meltdown during the Modern Warfare 4 campaign creates the radioactive Hajin Exclusion Zone. DMZ is set in Hajin after those campaign events, carrying the consequences of that fictional disaster into the extraction mode. GamesBeat reported the trailer and campaign premise on June 7, 2026; Call of Duty’s June 6, 2026 deep dive establishes DMZ’s Hajin setting and connection to the campaign.
What kind of mode is DMZ?
Call of Duty describes DMZ as an extraction shooter set in the aftermath of the campaign. The official overview highlights missions, dynamic operations, encounters with other players, and progression between matches. Blizzard News’ official overview also presents the mode as part of the campaign’s setting.
What can players do in Hajin?
Story Missions
Story Missions advance DMZ’s narrative and expand on the campaign’s events in Hajin.

What hazards does the trailer’s setting suggest?
Changing weather
Call of Duty describes downpours, fog, and overcast conditions that can affect visibility and navigation. These are environmental complications in the game, not evidence about real-world conditions in Hajin.
Escalating enemy response
According to the official deep dive, player activity can raise threat levels and bring stronger opposition. Examples include attack helicopters, armored troops, drone swarms, tanks, Juggernauts, and elite forces. The publisher describes escalation but does not provide a threat percentage or a fixed formula for when each response occurs.

Is the nuclear threat real?
No. The trailer promotes a fictional game narrative: a reactor meltdown in the campaign leaves Hajin radioactive, and DMZ follows in that setting. Neither the trailer premise nor the cited coverage establishes a real nuclear event.
