Monoco Skill List — Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guide

Monoco learns skills by defeating Nevrons that carry them. This guide explains the five-mask Bestial Wheel, six-slot loadouts, late-game recovery options and the unresolved 44-versus-46 skill-count discrepancy.

Monoco learns his combat skills from Nevrons rather than from a conventional level-up list. Defeat a Nevron that knows an unlearned skill, then equip the move from Monoco’s skill menu. An in-battle icon identifies a Nevron carrying a skill Monoco has not learned, according to Gamer Guides.

Published guides disagree on the total: Gamer Guides lists 46 skills, while PowerPyx’s May 23, 2025 achievement guide counts 44 skills for the Feet Collection. The sources do not explain the difference, so use the current skill-grid menu and achievement tracker to confirm your own completion.

How Monoco learns skills

  1. Find the relevant Nevron. Look for the battle icon indicating that the enemy has an unlearned Monoco skill.
  2. Defeat it with Monoco in the party. The skill is awarded when the encounter ends.
  3. Open Monoco’s skill menu. Newly learned moves are added to his available skill bar.
  4. Build a six-skill loadout. Monoco can equip six skills at a time, so rotate moves when you need different masks, damage types or status effects.

Gamer Guides says its listed locations reliably point to a suitable enemy, but some Nevrons recur in more than one area. Treat a location as a dependable route rather than the only possible encounter.

Monoco’s Bestial Wheel and five masks

Every Monoco skill is associated with one of five masks: Balanced, Heavy, Caster, Agile and Almighty. The Bestial Wheel advances as he uses skills. A move receives an enhancement when its mask matches the mask currently shown on the wheel; the exact benefit depends on the skill and can include increased damage or a stronger secondary effect.

  • Balanced: one of the five wheel states; use it when the matching move fits your current turn.
  • Heavy: a wheel state associated with its matching skill category.
  • Caster: a wheel state associated with its matching skill category.
  • Agile: a wheel state associated with its matching skill category.
  • Almighty: described by Gamer Guides as enhancing all skills, rather than only a single mask match.

Weapon effects can change the wheel’s order or starting position. Consequently, a loadout that is strong in one fight may be less convenient after a weapon change or a different opening wheel state.

Skills confirmed in the available guide excerpts

The excerpts available for this guide establish the following examples, but not a complete 44- or 46-entry roster. Mask assignments and encounter details for these examples are not stated in the excerpts.

Skill Effect described by the guide Mask Encounter location
Chalier Combo Six-hit, high-damage physical attack against one target. Not stated in the available excerpt. Not stated in the available excerpt.
Chevaliere Ice Attacks all enemies and applies Slow. Not stated in the available excerpt. Not stated in the available excerpt.

For the complete current roster, inspect Monoco’s in-game skill grid and use each entry’s Nevron indicator as the authoritative checklist. Do not assume that a published total is universal: the 46-skill figure from Gamer Guides and the 44-skill achievement count from PowerPyx may use different scopes, versions or counting conventions.

How to assemble a practical six-skill bar

Cover the wheel

Carry at least one skill from each mask when possible. This gives you a way to exploit matching-wheel enhancements instead of waiting several turns for a favorable state.

Balance damage profiles

Compare single-target and all-enemy coverage, physical versus other damage types, hit count and the move’s AP cost. A six-hit single-target attack can be valuable against a durable boss, while an area attack is more efficient against groups.

Use status effects deliberately

Account for effects such as Slow, Mark, Burn, healing or defensive support when choosing between moves with similar damage. A conditional-damage skill is most useful when the party can reliably apply its required status first.

Check the wheel before spending AP

A matching mask can make an expensive move worthwhile, while an off-mask cast may be better replaced by a cheaper setup skill. Include the wheel’s next position and any weapon-altered order in your decision, not just the move’s listed damage.

Can Monoco’s skills be missed?

PowerPyx reports that post-launch patches made Monoco’s skills non-missable and that most can be collected later through the Endless Tower. This is that guide’s post-launch guidance, not a platform-by-platform version audit. If a skill is missing, check the current game version, revisit the relevant Nevron encounter and use the Endless Tower as a later collection route where the game makes it available.

Why skill totals differ

The safest answer to “How many skills does Monoco have?” is that published counts conflict. Gamer Guides says 46; PowerPyx says 44 are required for the Feet Collection. Neither cited source explains the two-skill gap. It may reflect a different definition of “skill,” a version change or a menu-versus-achievement count, but that cause is unconfirmed.

For a completion run, record every entry shown in your current skill grid, then compare it with the achievement tracker. That avoids treating either guide’s number as a guaranteed universal total.
