Monster Hunter Wilds sold 8 million units worldwide in its first three days, Capcom said on March 4, 2025—the fastest any Capcom title had reached that sales milestone. Capcom also confirmed the game uses its proprietary RE ENGINE, but the company described the sales record as applying across its titles, not specifically to RE ENGINE games.
What record did Monster Hunter Wilds set?
Capcom reported that Monster Hunter Wilds sold 8 million units worldwide during its first three days after launching on February 28, 2025. The company called it the fastest any game in Capcom’s history had reached 8 million sales. That is a time-to-milestone record—not a claim that Wilds is Capcom’s best-selling game ever.
The distinction matters because Capcom’s announcement does not rank the game against other RE ENGINE titles specifically. It states a company-wide comparison and separately identifies RE ENGINE as the technology behind the game’s visuals. Capcom’s launch announcement supports both facts, but not an engine-only sales record.
How did sales grow after launch?
Capcom announced that sales topped 10 million units in the game’s first month. Its Platinum Titles catalog later listed Monster Hunter Wilds at 11.80 million units when accessed on October 8, 2026. These are separate reporting points: the first is a first-month milestone, while the catalog figure is a later cumulative total, not a live sales ticker.

What does RE ENGINE have to do with the story?
RE ENGINE is Capcom’s proprietary game development engine. The company said it made the game’s visual depictions possible; that confirms the engine connection behind the article’s headline, but does not narrow the sales comparison to other games built with the same engine.
Capcom’s launch announcement also describes cross-play as letting players play together regardless of platform. The company’s March 31, 2025 announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as platforms, and calls cross-play a first for the series. Read Capcom’s first-month announcement.

Capcom described a changing environment that shifts between dangerous wilderness and a rich natural ecosystem, along with Focus Mode and seamless movement between settlements and ecosystems. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of the game’s features, rather than independent review findings.
