The feature arrived through rolling game updates rather than one simultaneous Sony release. It works on supported AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce hardware, but it is separate from AMD’s newer FSR 4 and “Redstone” driver technologies.
The eight Sony PC games with FSR 3.1
Nixxes’ current support guidance identifies these eight ports as supporting AMD FSR 3.1. The list confirms FSR 3.1 support, but does not mean every title received it in the same patch or that every title has separately documented FSR 4 or Redstone compatibility.
| Game | FSR 3.1 status | Specific update evidence | FSR 4/Redstone status |

See Nixxes’ list and recommendations: Recommendations for AMD FSR frame generation. Nixxes release notes dated January 26, 2026 (version 3.617.1.0) and February 2, 2026 (version v2.618.0.0) also describe additions of FSR 3.1 with frame generation and Native AA, although their visible headings do not identify the corresponding game. The Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition notes explicitly identify patch 1.5.80.0: Nixxes patch 1.5.80.0 notes.
What “native” FSR 3.1 means
Native support is code shipped in the game. The title exposes AMD FSR options in its graphics settings and provides the motion vectors, depth information, user-interface data and frame-pacing information that frame generation needs. This is different from injecting a feature with a mod or external utility.

Native AA is an anti-aliasing and image-quality option. It does not turn on frame generation. In Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, the patch notes list Native AA and frame generation as separate additions.
Native integration versus driver upgrades
AMD’s supported-games documentation distinguishes a game’s own FSR integration from AMD Software features that upgrade compatible integrations. AMD says ML-based upgrades require the appropriate in-game FSR 3.1 integration for upscaling, or FSR 3.1.4 integration for ML-based frame generation, and DirectX 12. A driver upgrade is therefore not the same thing as a new native implementation by the game developer: AMD’s supported-games list.
FSR 3.1, FSR 4 and Redstone are not interchangeable
| Technology | Where it comes from | Requirements and limits documented here |
|---|---|---|
| Native FSR 3.1 upscaling | Game patch and in-game renderer | Supported game build, compatible GPU and driver |
| Native FSR 3.1 frame generation | Game integration and in-game toggle | Best results when the game already renders around 60 FPS |
| FSR 4 upscaling | AMD Software upgrade path for eligible integrations | AMD’s March 2025 driver notes limited FSR 4 to Radeon RX 9070-series cards in that release: Adrenalin 25.3.1 release notes |
| FSR “Redstone” ML frame generation | Newer AMD integration or driver compatibility path | The cited July 8, 2026 Nixxes notes require a Radeon RX 9000-series GPU and driver 25.12.1 or newer: version v3.630.1.0 and version 4.630.0.0 |
Do not assume that all eight games automatically gain FSR 4 or Redstone. AMD’s compatibility list changes and separates native support from driver-upgrade support. The word “native” should describe features shipped in the game, not an AMD Software override.
Hardware support and the 60-FPS rule
Nixxes lists Radeon RX 5000-series and newer cards, and GeForce RTX 20-series and newer cards, as supported for FSR 3 upscaling and frame generation. It recommends Radeon RX 6000-series or newer and GeForce RTX 30-series or newer for a better experience. Older GPUs, integrated graphics and handheld PCs may run the feature unofficially, but Nixxes warns that the benefit or image quality may be poor.

Nixxes recommends approximately 60 FPS from the game’s normally rendered frames before enabling generation. Generated frames are interpolated display frames; they do not make the game simulation, animation input sampling or underlying responsiveness run at the generated frame rate. A 30-FPS base can look smoother with inserted frames while still feeling like a 30-FPS game.
- Frame generation is most persuasive in cinematic, single-player games with a high-refresh display.
- Competitive players should prioritize rendered frame rate and input response, then test generation carefully.
- If the base rate is well below 60 FPS, reduce resolution or graphics settings before relying on generated frames.
- CPU-limited systems may show a higher counter without solving the actual bottleneck.
How to enable it
Menu names vary by game and patch, so use the following as a general path:
- Update the game through Steam, Epic Games Store or its relevant launcher.
- Install a current AMD or Nvidia graphics driver.
- Open Options, Settings or Graphics.
- Select AMD FSR 3.1, or the equivalent AMD upscaling entry.
- Turn on the separate Frame Generation toggle if it is present.
- Choose a quality mode such as Quality, Balanced or Performance.
- Restart the game if it requests a restart.
- Compare frame pacing, image artifacts and input response rather than relying only on the displayed FPS number.
Settings that can affect smoothness
- Enable FreeSync when your display supports it; Nixxes recommends variable refresh for compatible systems.
- On supported Windows 11 systems with Radeon RX 7000-series or newer hardware, enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling.
- Disable driver-level Radeon Anti-Lag if it causes frame-pacing problems, and use in-game Radeon Anti-Lag 2 only where the title and hardware support it.
- Do not combine FSR frame generation with AMD Fluid Motion Frames. Nixxes warns that simultaneous frame-interpolation systems can create pacing problems.
- Temporarily remove third-party overlays or other driver-level frame-generation tools when diagnosing uneven output.
Troubleshooting
The frame-generation option is missing
- Install the latest game update and verify the installed build.
- Confirm that the GPU and driver meet the title’s supported hardware guidance.
- Check whether the game requires DirectX 12.
- Look for separate upscaling and frame-generation switches.
- Do not confuse AMD Software’s driver feature with a native in-game option.
Frame generation stutters or shows artifacts
- Turn frame generation off and establish a stable base frame rate.
- Disable AMD Fluid Motion Frames and other driver-level interpolation.
- Disable third-party overlays.
- Enable FreeSync if available.
- Lower resolution, ray tracing or other demanding settings until the base rate is near 60 FPS.
- Test in-game Anti-Lag 2 only if that title explicitly supports it.
These are Nixxes’ recommendations, not a claim of a particular benchmark result. Fast camera movement, disocclusion, transparent effects and on-screen interface elements can make generated-frame errors easier to notice.
The FPS counter rises but responsiveness does not
Frame generation inserts pictures between normally rendered frames. A higher displayed number does not prove that input latency or simulation cadence has improved by the same amount. If responsiveness matters more than smooth camera motion, compare the game with generation disabled.

FSR 4 or Redstone is unavailable
Possible explanations include a GPU outside the required Radeon RX 9000 series, a driver older than 25.12.1 for the cited Redstone patches, an integration level that does not qualify for AMD’s ML upgrade, or a game that is not on AMD’s current supported list. Compatibility is subject to change; check AMD’s list and the specific Nixxes release notes.

High-refresh single-player systems
Enable native FSR 3.1 frame generation when the game already approaches 60 rendered FPS and you prefer smoother motion. FreeSync can help the display present the output consistently.
Competitive or latency-sensitive play
Start with the highest stable rendered frame rate and leave generation off if added smoothness is not worth possible latency or artifacts. The Sony ports covered here are primarily cinematic single-player experiences, but individual sensitivity varies.
Handhelds and low-end PCs
Do not assume frame generation makes every port suitable for Steam Deck-class hardware. Nixxes provides broad GPU guidance but does not promise a good experience on every handheld, operating-system and game combination. A lower resolution or lighter preset may produce a better result.

Radeon RX 9000 owners
Investigate the separate FSR 4 or Redstone compatibility path in AMD Software and the game’s current support notes. Native FSR 3.1 support alone does not guarantee either newer ML feature.
What to buy—and what not to assume
A new GPU is not required if your existing card can already produce a stable near-60-FPS base rate with native FSR 3.1. Radeon RX 9000-series hardware is relevant specifically to the cited Redstone requirements, while Nixxes lists much older Radeon and RTX generations for native FSR 3 support. A high-refresh FreeSync monitor can improve presentation, but it cannot repair a very low base rate, poor frame pacing or generation artifacts. No subscription is required for AMD Software drivers.
