The Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns launch trailer, released ahead of the expansion on September 24, 2024, offered a brief first look at a Ghostface Fatality. Contemporary coverage described Ghostface teaming up with another masked killer for a coordinated attack. NetherRealm later explained why multiple Ghostfaces appear in the game, adding context that was not part of the original trailer reveal.
What the Khaos Reigns trailer showed
Warner Bros. Games released the expansion’s launch trailer on September 18, 2024. A report published that day described a short Fatality preview in which Ghostface joins another Ghostface to attack the opponent. That is a report of the trailer moment, not a full explanation of the move or its mechanics. Final Weapon’s trailer report is the source for the specific staging description.

Why there is more than one Ghostface
NetherRealm’s later explanation makes the team-up fit the character’s source material: the original Scream revealed that multiple killers were behind the mask. Combat Designer Joe Epstein said the game’s Ghostface was based mostly on that film to represent the “core Ghostface ethos.” Epstein’s Xbox Wire commentary describes that design influence.
NetherRealm also explained that Billy Loomis is the canon Ghostface shown in cinematic Fatal Blows and finishing moves, while other Ghostfaces assist the original Woodsboro Ghostface. This developer detail came later than the September trailer and should not be mistaken for something the trailer itself explained. NetherRealm’s PlayStation.Blog account provides that clarification.

How Ghostface fits into Khaos Reigns
Khaos Reigns is a story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1. Its story follows Liu Kang as he rallies champions and former enemies against Titan Havik. Ghostface is one of six playable fighters in Kombat Pack 2, alongside Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. The official Khaos Reigns page also says Animalities returned as a free content update for all owners of Mortal Kombat 1.
When the expansion was announced, Warner Bros. Games scheduled its story and Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor for September 24, 2024, with Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan listed as post-launch fighters. The announcement offered expansion owners one-week early access to those post-launch characters. Those are the original rollout details, not a statement of current storefront availability or price. Warner Bros. Games’ announcement records the launch plan.

According to the official support article, Kombat Pack 2 is not sold as a standalone character bundle. It is included with the Khaos Reigns Expansion, Bundle, or Kollection. The support page says access and installation steps depend on the platform and the entitlement attached to the purchase, so check the instructions for your console or PC storefront if Ghostface does not appear in-game. Mortal Kombat Games Support’s DLC access guide covers those differences.
The base game and downloadable expansion are distinct purchases; owning Mortal Kombat 1 alone should not be treated as including Ghostface. The 2024 expansion announcement’s recommended prices are historical, and current prices or availability are not established here.
