MSI’s GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G is a China-reported, two-slot RTX 4090 with a blower-style cooler designed to send hot air out of the back of a workstation or server. Its compact exhaust design may suit dense multi-GPU systems, but the card’s availability and official specifications remain limited: the cited reports describe a quiet, China-exclusive release that MSI did not list on its website.
What is the MSI RTX 4090 Aero S 24G?
The Aero S 24G is a workstation-oriented variant of the GeForce RTX 4090. HotHardware reported it in July 2023 with a matte-black, minimally branded shroud and a profile only slightly taller than the PCIe bracket. Unlike the large axial coolers common on gaming cards, its blower pushes heated air out through the rear bracket. HotHardware’s report describes it as a compact design for workstation users.
Tom’s Hardware later reported the card being offered by Chinese datacenter and workstation retailer 3DStor, while noting it was not listed on MSI’s website. VideoCardz described the release as unannounced and exclusive to China. These reports establish that the model surfaced through specialist channels; they do not establish broad retail availability or an official MSI product launch.
Reported specifications
- GPU and memory: VideoCardz reported an AD102-300 GPU, 16,384 CUDA cores and 24 GB of GDDR6X. MSI had not published an official specification sheet in that report. VideoCardz
- Boost clock: The 3DStor listing cited by Tom’s Hardware used NVIDIA’s 2,520 MHz reference boost clock. This is a retailer-listed figure, not a separately confirmed MSI specification. Tom’s Hardware
- Power: VideoCardz called 450 W probable, since MSI had not published an official TDP for the Aero S. Treat that as an inference, not a confirmed Aero S rating.
- Power connector: The retailer listing reported a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector. Confirm the exact card and cable or adapter requirements with the seller before purchase.
Why put a blower on an RTX 4090?
A blower draws air through the card and exhausts much of its heat through the rear bracket. That can matter when several GPUs are installed close together: an open-air axial cooler typically releases much of its heat back into the case, where neighboring cards can ingest it. Rear exhaust can therefore help in dense workstations, compact systems and slim rack-mounted servers with a suitable airflow path.

The trade-off is that a blower has less room to move air quietly and efficiently than a large axial cooler. HotHardware and Tom’s Hardware both describe blower designs as louder or less efficient, while recognizing their value in compact, airflow-limited builds. A two-slot card can improve physical fit, but it does not by itself guarantee that a server has enough cooling capacity, power delivery or clearance for its connectors.
How loud and hot can a blower RTX 4090 get?
In a January 2023 evaluation of a dual-slot, unbranded blower RTX 4090—not an MSI Aero S sample—Tom’s Hardware reported a locked 450 W power limit and fan speeds as high as 5,200 RPM. With the default fan curve, the GPU reached 78 °C and memory reached 96 °C. An aggressive fan curve lowered those readings to 67 °C and about 88 °C, respectively. Those results illustrate the design trade-off, not guaranteed Aero S temperatures or acoustics. Tom’s Hardware’s Zhiye Liu wrote of the tested card: “Under a heavy workload, the GeForce RTX 4090 sounds like a jet engine.” A more aggressive fan curve improved temperatures in that test but necessarily asks the fan to work harder; the report does not provide a sound-pressure figure that can be applied to the MSI model.
Is the Aero S a good fit for a multi-GPU workstation or server?
It is most relevant when card spacing and heat direction are more important than low noise. The retailer listing described by Tom’s Hardware targeted buyers installing two or more cards. Before planning a build, check the actual chassis layout, airflow direction, power supply capacity, 12VHPWR cable clearance, and whether the system’s cooling can handle sustained GPU workloads.

- Potential mismatch: Quiet desktop gaming systems, cases with weak front-to-back airflow, or builds where the card’s power connector cannot be safely accommodated.
- Check before buying: Physical slot clearance, card dimensions, the server’s approved GPU and power configuration, seller support, warranty coverage and local availability.
The cited reports do not confirm a general compatibility list for servers or multi-GPU motherboards. A two-slot profile is useful information, not a substitute for checking the precise chassis and platform requirements.
What does the RTX 4090 platform offer for gaming and creation?
The Aero S is still an RTX 4090, so its appeal is based on NVIDIA’s high-end GPU platform rather than a special feature unique to the blower cooler. NVIDIA’s October 2022 launch article said the RTX 4090 has dual eighth-generation encoders with AV1 support, and claimed up to 40% better efficiency for live streamers and up to twice the performance in creative applications. For gaming, the unusual cooler mainly changes how the card fits and handles heat in a constrained enclosure. NVIDIA’s Andrew Burnes wrote at launch: “Today’s games see their performance increase by up to 2X compared to the RTX 3090 Ti, and up to 4X in next-gen titles with full ray tracing!” These are NVIDIA’s stated comparisons and should not be read as a promise of identical results in every game or configuration.

The cited 2023 reports characterized the Aero S as a China-exclusive or China-channel product, surfaced through a specialist retailer rather than MSI’s own product listing. They do not verify current stock, an authorized seller outside China, an official regional launch, warranty terms or a dependable price. One Tom’s Hardware report noted a $3,065 eBay listing for a blower RTX 4090; that was an observed listing price, not an MSRP or confirmed Aero S price.

If you find one offered for sale, establish the exact model and seller, whether the card is new or used, what warranty applies in your region, and what return support is available. Do not assume that a listing or resale price means MSI provides local warranty service.
Is the blower RTX 4090 worth it?
For a builder who needs a two-slot RTX 4090 and rear-directed exhaust in a dense workstation or server, the Aero S addresses a real form-factor problem. For an ordinary gaming PC, its specialist availability and the blower design’s noise and cooling trade-offs make it a poor default choice. The evidence supports considering it for constrained multi-GPU installations—not treating it as a quieter, universally compatible RTX 4090.
