MSI’s MAG 275CQPF is a 27-inch, 1500R curved gaming monitor launched in August 2024. It combines a 2560×1440 Rapid VA panel, a 180Hz maximum refresh rate and MSI’s claimed 0.5ms GtG minimum response time. The headline is broadly correct, but the qualification matters: MSI also lists 1ms MPRT, HDMI is limited to 144Hz at 1440p, and the display has no USB connectivity.
What MSI launched
The product is specifically the MSI MAG 275CQPF, not simply an unspecified “new MAG monitor.” Gizmochina reported the launch on August 7, 2024, while MSI continues to host the model’s official product page and specifications.
It is a mainstream MAG-series gaming display rather than an OLED or flagship esports monitor. The combination targets buyers moving to 27-inch 1440p gaming who want more than 144Hz and prefer the contrast characteristics of VA.

What the 1500R curve means
“1500R” describes an approximate 1,500mm radius for the screen’s curve. A smaller radius is tighter; 1500R is more moderate than 1000R designs. At 27 inches it can add immersion in racing, first-person and cinematic games without being especially aggressive.
Curvature is a preference, not a performance advantage. Straight-line work, architectural drawings, spreadsheets and multi-monitor alignment can be more comfortable on a flat panel. The conventional 16:9 shape remains broadly compatible with games, video and desktop software.
Is 180Hz useful at 1440p?
180Hz can make motion and input updates feel smoother than 60Hz or 144Hz, but the benefit depends on frame rate. A computer must render close to 180 frames per second to use the panel’s full refresh potential. Competitive games are more likely to reach that level than modern, visually demanding AAA titles at 2560×1440.
Rank #2
- Rapid VA Panel – Provides 0.5ms (GtG, Min.) response time, optimizes screen colors and brightness
- 240Hz Refresh Rate – Respond faster with smoother frames
- 0.5ms (GtG, Min.) Response Time – Eliminate screen tearing and choppy frame rates
- AI Vision – The new AI Vision technology can not only reveal details in dark areas but also enhance overall brightness and saturate colors
- Less Blue Light – Use a software solution to reduce the light emission in the blue-violet region of the blue light spectrum
A slower graphics card can still use the monitor effectively at lower frame rates with Adaptive-Sync. The specification does not make every game faster, nor does 180Hz by itself guarantee better aim.
The 0.5ms claim explained
MSI specifies 0.5ms GtG, minimum. “Minimum” is the fastest claimed result under particular conditions, not a promise that every pixel transition averages 0.5ms at every refresh rate and color change.
The manual separately lists 1ms MPRT. GtG measures a pixel’s transition between shades; MPRT is a moving-picture response-time metric commonly associated with blur-reduction operation. They are different measurements and cannot be compared as interchangeable numbers.
Actual motion clarity can vary with refresh rate, overdrive setting, transition color and whether a blur-reduction mode is active. No independent test establishes consistent 0.5ms performance for this model. Avoid automatically selecting the most aggressive overdrive: excessive tuning can produce inverse ghosting or bright halos.
Rank #3
- RAPID IPS PANEL: 27-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440), 300Hz refresh rate, 0.5ms response time, ultra-smooth gaming, 1.07 billion colors, 10-bit depth
- Supports 130% sRGB, 95% DCI-P3, and 89% Adobe RGB color gamut, DisplayHDR 400, 1000:1 static ratio
- Adaptive Sync, console mode for PS5 and Xbox, supporting 1080p and 1440p at both 60Hz and 120Hz with VRR for tear-free gaming
- 2x HDMI 2.1, 1x DisplayPort 1.4a, headphone-out jack, HDMI CEC support with PIP/PBP functionality for multi-source viewing
- Fully adjustable stand, height up to 5.1 inches, tilt from -5 to 20 degrees, swivel from -30 to 30 degrees, pivot from -90 to 90 degrees, 100 x 100mm VESA mounting compatibility
Rapid VA trade-offs
VA technology typically offers higher native contrast than ordinary IPS. MSI’s 5000:1 typical figure can produce deeper blacks and stronger perceived depth in dark games and movies. That makes the panel suitable for mixed gaming and general use.
The trade-off is that VA panels can show dark-level smearing or black trailing in fast, dark scenes. The 0.5ms headline does not prove that these transitions are equally fast. MSI’s 178° viewing-angle specification also does not guarantee the same color consistency as an IPS panel when viewed off-axis. Independent motion and image-quality testing was not established for this display.
Ports and input-specific refresh rates
- One DisplayPort 1.4 input
- Two HDMI 2.0b inputs
- One headphone output
- No USB ports, USB hub, USB-C video input, HDMI 2.1 or KVM listed
MSI rates DisplayPort for 2560×1440 at up to 180Hz. HDMI 2.0b is listed for 2560×1440 at up to 144Hz, so not every input can deliver the headline refresh rate.
For 1440p/180Hz, connect the graphics card by DisplayPort, use a suitable cable, select 180Hz in the operating system or GPU control panel, and enable Adaptive-Sync in the monitor and compatible GPU software. If 180Hz is unavailable, check the selected input, cable, display mode, drivers and any adapter or dock in the signal path.

Stand, mounting and built-in features
The stand provides 0–110mm height adjustment, −5° to 20° tilt and −20° to 20° swivel. There is no pivot adjustment, so portrait orientation is less convenient. A 75×75mm VESA pattern and Kensington lock are included.

“HDR Ready” is a compatibility designation. With 300-nit typical brightness and no documented local dimming or VESA DisplayHDR certification in the listed specifications, it should not be treated as a high-impact HDR monitor or an OLED alternative.
MSI lists 136% sRGB, 94% DCI-P3 and 90% Adobe RGB coverage, with the Adobe RGB, DCI-P3 and sRGB figures following the CIE1976 standard. Coverage above 100% sRGB does not prove calibration accuracy; unmanaged standard-gamut content can look oversaturated.

Availability and buying context
The MAG 275CQPF is a 2024 model, not a new August 2026 launch. MSI’s product page remains available, but the supplied information does not verify current U.S. inventory, a current exact-model MSRP, regional warranty terms or whether a retailer listing is new, refurbished or marketplace stock.
Check the exact model number through MSI’s U.S. monitor store and regional “where to buy” links before purchasing. The original launch report did not establish pricing. Prices shown for different MAG models, including listings on Walmart, are not valid prices for this monitor.
Current MSI alternatives include the MAG 275CQF E18, the MAG 27CQ6PF in MSI’s MAG-series store, and the newer flat MAG 275QPF E21. Their suffixes indicate different products; compare ports, panel, stand and response specifications rather than assuming equivalence.
Bottom line
The MSI MAG 275CQPF is a plausible discounted 27-inch 1440p/180Hz VA monitor for PC gamers who value contrast, a moderate curve and an adjustable stand. Its headline needs careful reading: 0.5ms is a minimum GtG claim, 1ms is a separate MPRT figure, and DisplayPort—not HDMI—is required for 180Hz at 1440p. It is not the right purchase for USB-C docking, premium HDR, HDMI 2.1 or independently verified top-tier motion performance.
