Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →msir3jp.dll may appear in messages such as “This application failed to start because msir3jp.dll was not found” or “The program can’t start because msir3jp.dll is missing from your computer.” The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Microsoft product or older Windows component that supplied the file, not to download a replacement DLL.
You may also see:
- “The file msir3jp.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Error loading msir3jp.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load msir3jp.dll.”
- “The application was unable to start correctly.”
- “msir3jp.dll is not designed to run on Windows.”
These are reported error variants rather than one universal Windows message. The wording can indicate a missing file, a damaged or mismatched file, an invalid application path, or a dependency that Windows cannot load.

What msir3jp.dll is
msir3jp.dll is a Microsoft language-resource DLL named Japanese Wordbreaker and Stemmer. Its product metadata identifies it as part of Natural Language Components, developed by Microsoft Corporation.
A word breaker divides written text into searchable words. A stemmer helps search treat related forms of a word as related during indexing and full-text queries. Microsoft describes these language resources in its documentation for Windows Search language components.

This makes msir3jp.dll a search and language-processing component, not:
- A graphics or game engine DLL
- A DirectX file
- A Visual C++ runtime library
- A general-purpose Windows runtime
- A driver
- A file that should normally be registered with
regsvr32
The file is associated with older Windows installations and Microsoft software. Historical Windows XP inventories place it under:
C:WindowsSystem32msir3jp.dll
C:WindowsSystem32dllcachemsir3jp.dll
Microsoft also shipped a 32-bit copy through an Office 2010 update. That evidence matters because the correct repair depends on which Microsoft product originally installed the file.
Do not assume that every copy has the same version, size, or architecture. Older Windows copies and Office copies can differ. There is also no authoritative evidence of a current, universal 64-bit msir3jp.dll package.
Is this a Windows file, an Office file, or a game DLL?
It can be connected to either an older Windows language component or Microsoft Office, depending on the computer and the program showing the error.
The most realistic situations are:
- An older Windows installation expects the language component in a system location.
- Office 2010 or an older Office installation supplied the file.
- A legacy application depends on Office or Windows search components.
- An old application was copied to a different computer without reinstalling its prerequisites.
- A non-Microsoft program is displaying the error because it loads an older Microsoft component.
There is no verified evidence tying msir3jp.dll to a particular game. If a game reports the error, repair or verify the game first, but do not assume that the file is a game asset.
On current Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems, do not treat msir3jp.dll as a standard component that must exist on every installation. Its presence usually points to an older application, an Office installation, or a legacy component.
What changed before the error appeared?
The timing often identifies the repair path. Think back to the last change before the message appeared:
- An antivirus or Microsoft Defender scan removed or quarantined the file.
- An Office installation or update stopped halfway through.
- A legacy application was uninstalled or moved from another PC.
- A disk or system-file problem damaged the component.
- A cleanup utility removed files from an old program directory.
- The application was moved to a new Windows installation.
- A file was replaced with one from a different architecture or version.
If the dialog names a specific executable, write it down. The executable is often more useful than the DLL name because it identifies which application is trying to load the component.
Fix 1: Repair the application that shows the error
Start here if the message appears when opening Office, an older Microsoft application, or one particular program.
Repair Microsoft 365 or Click-to-Run Office
- Close all Office applications.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Online Repair.
- Select Repair and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft’s current procedure is documented in its guide to repairing an Office application.
Online Repair reinstalls Office components rather than merely checking a shortcut. It can take time and may require Office to be activated again.
Repair an MSI-based Office installation
Some older Office installations show a different dialog:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the Office installation.
- Select Change.
- Choose Repair.
- Select Continue.
- Restart Windows when the repair finishes.
Try the application again. If the error is gone, the repaired Office installation was the owning component.
Repair a non-Microsoft application
If only one legacy program reports the error:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, uninstall the program.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the original, trustworthy installer.
For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of files command before reinstalling. Do not copy msir3jp.dll into the game folder unless the game’s official support instructions specifically require an application-owned copy.
If the application was simply copied from another computer, reinstall it. A copied executable may expect registry entries, language resources, supporting files, or a particular installation path that copying one DLL cannot recreate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 2: Install the applicable Windows or Office updates
This is especially relevant on an older Windows or Office installation.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all applicable updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Check for updates again until no additional applicable updates are offered.
For Office 2010, Microsoft’s KB2596963 documentation identifies a 32-bit msir3jp.dll copy in the update package. If you are maintaining an old Office installation, use the Microsoft Update Catalog, match the package to the installed Office architecture, and follow Microsoft’s installation instructions.
Do not use that historical update as a universal DLL download. It is relevant only when it matches the Office installation and Windows environment that needs repair.
After updating, restart the affected application. If the message remains, continue with component repair instead of manually copying the file.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when multiple programs report missing or damaged system components, Windows has recently had an update failure, or the file may have been removed from a protected Windows location.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait until the command finishes.
Do not close the window while DISM is running. The command repairs the Windows component store, which SFC may need as a source for replacement system files.
Run System File Checker
In the same elevated Command Prompt, enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait for verification to reach 100 percent. Then restart Windows.
Microsoft’s instructions for these commands are in Using System File Checker in Windows.
Recommended Free Tools
Test the application after the restart. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, try the program again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and run SFC once more. If the result is unchanged, repair the parent Office or legacy application instead of repeating the commands indefinitely.
Running these commands by hand is useful, but it can be difficult to tell which component changed when several repairs are pending. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying problems and show what needs attention; its repair functions are provided by the full version, and it is not required for this fix.
Fix 4: Check Microsoft Defender Protection History
If the error began immediately after a security scan, the file may have been quarantined.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
msir3jp.dll. - Open the detection details.
- Check the file path and the stated action.
Microsoft documents these controls in Protection History in the Windows Security app.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Do not restore a file solely because its filename looks familiar. First check that:
- It came from the expected Microsoft or Office installation path.
- The file is digitally signed by Microsoft Corporation.
- The detection appears to be a false positive.
- The application that needs it is known and trusted.
If those checks are not conclusive, leave the file quarantined and reinstall the supplying Microsoft product. Restoring a suspicious file can expose the system again, and Defender may quarantine it a second time.
Protection History does not retain every event indefinitely. On current Windows versions, older events may no longer be visible after the retention period, so an empty history does not prove that antivirus software never removed the file.
Fix 5: Reinstall the original product
Use this path when the file is missing from an Office installation, a legacy Microsoft application, or a program that was partially removed.

- Select the affected product.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the product again using its original Microsoft or vendor installer.
- Apply the product’s available updates.
- Restart once more.
- Test the application.
For Office, use the Microsoft account or installation media associated with that Office license. For an older application, use the original installer rather than a DLL archive.
Reinstallation restores the files, registry entries, installation paths, and supporting components that the program expects. Copying msir3jp.dll alone does not do that.
Fix 6: Use System Restore or a Windows repair installation
If the error started after a failed update, failed software installation, or system cleanup, System Restore may return the component and its configuration to an earlier working state.
- Open Start.
- Search for
Create a restore point. - Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove applications or updates installed after the selected restore point.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If no suitable restore point exists and Windows components remain damaged, consider an in-place Windows repair installation where supported. Back up important data first and use installation media from Microsoft. A clean installation should be the last resort, after application repair, DISM, SFC, and System Restore have been considered.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not download a random replacement DLL
Avoid websites that offer msir3jp.dll as an isolated download. A replacement can be:
- Malware disguised with a familiar filename
- The wrong version for the application
- The wrong architecture
- Missing a valid Microsoft signature
- Older than the file it replaces
- Placed in a directory that the application does not use
It can also hide the real problem, such as a failed Office update, a missing dependency, or an incorrect application path.
The safe sources are the original Microsoft product installer, Windows Update, Microsoft Office repair, the Microsoft Update Catalog where the package matches the installation, and Windows component repair. There is no need to search for a modern standalone “Natural Language Components” redistributable when Microsoft has not provided authoritative evidence of one.
Architecture, paths, and dependency checks
Architecture matters, but public listings are not reliable proof of what belongs on every system.
The Microsoft Office evidence specifically identifies a 32-bit copy. That does not prove that every historical copy was 32-bit, and it does not establish a current 64-bit replacement. Match the application and package architecture:
- A 32-bit application may require a 32-bit Microsoft component.
- A 64-bit application may require a 64-bit component or a different installation path.
- A 32-bit Office update should not be used to repair an unrelated 64-bit installation.
- A file copied from another computer may have a different version even if the filename matches.
To check the application architecture:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps and inspect the application details where available.
- For a running program, open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Look for the executable.
- Check its properties or the application’s documentation for architecture information.
The exact path also matters. A message saying “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that msir3jp.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies. Reinstalling the owning product is safer than replacing the named file repeatedly.
Why regsvr32 is usually not the answer
regsvr32 is a registration utility for DLLs that provide the appropriate COM registration entry point, commonly DllRegisterServer. Microsoft documents its behavior in the regsvr32 command reference.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
There is no verified evidence that the historical msir3jp.dll should be manually registered. Running commands such as these is therefore not a general repair:
regsvr32 msir3jp.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32msir3jp.dll
They can produce another error without restoring the language component. Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically documents registration for that DLL and confirms that the file exports the required registration function.
Drivers and Device Manager
A driver update is not a normal fix for msir3jp.dll. This file is a language-processing component, not a hardware driver. Updating graphics, audio, chipset, or printer drivers will not normally restore it.
Use Device Manager only when the same application error also identifies a genuine hardware or driver problem:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant hardware category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For a defective device, obtain the driver from the computer or hardware manufacturer. Do not install a driver merely because a generic DLL error appeared.
Manually checking each device can mean hunting versions and guessing which driver is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan the installed drivers and identify candidates; driver installation is handled by the full version, and it is not needed to repair msir3jp.dll itself.
Windows Features are not a standalone fix
Windows Features does not provide a verified, current feature named msir3jp.dll or a universal Natural Language Components package.
You can still check whether an older application depends on an optional Windows component:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Review only the feature named by the application’s documentation.
- Do not enable unrelated features to make the DLL message disappear.
If the application needs a specific legacy feature, enable that feature, restart Windows, and test the application. Otherwise, return to Office repair, application reinstall, DISM, and SFC.
When the normal repair fails
Record these details before seeking further support:
- The exact error wording
- The executable that displays the error
- The full path shown in any error details
- Your Windows version
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether Office is installed and which architecture it uses
- The last update, installation, cleanup, or security scan
- The result of DISM and SFC
- Whether Protection History shows a quarantine event
This information distinguishes a missing Microsoft component from a missing dependency, a wrong application path, or an invalid replacement file.
FAQ
Is msir3jp.dll a virus?
The filename belongs to a genuine Microsoft language component, but a filename alone does not prove that a particular copy is safe. Check its location, digital signature, and installation source. A copy in an unexpected user or temporary directory deserves investigation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes Windows 11 normally include msir3jp.dll?
Do not assume that current Windows 11 installations include this historical component by default. The verified evidence connects the file to older Windows installations and older Microsoft Office software.
Can I copy msir3jp.dll from another computer?
That is unsafe as a general repair. The other computer may have a different version, architecture, installation path, or dependency set. Reinstall the Microsoft product or application that owns the file.
Will Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
Not normally. msir3jp.dll is a Japanese language-search component, not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX library, or generic .NET file. Install those runtimes only when the complete error identifies them as a separate missing dependency.
Why does the message say the module could not be found when the DLL exists?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or damaged module. It can also be loaded from the wrong path or have the wrong architecture. Repair the owning product instead of replacing the named file alone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is msir3jp.dll used by a specific game?
There is no verified evidence connecting it to a particular game. If a game reports the filename, use the launcher’s repair or file-verification feature and reinstall the game if necessary.
Should I use System32 or SysWOW64?
Do not choose a folder based only on the filename. Windows selects paths according to the application architecture and installation context. Manually placing the file in either directory can create a mismatch. Use the original installer or component repair.
What is the most likely fix?
Repair or reinstall the Microsoft product or legacy Windows component that supplied the file. For Office, use Office Repair first. For broader Windows corruption, run DISM followed by SFC. If antivirus removed the file, verify the detection and reinstall the original product when in doubt.
