First, check whether you can still access your copy: MultiVersus stopped being playable online and downloadable through PlayStation Network after May 30, 2025. Offline play remains available only to players who installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5, February 4–May 30, 2025, creating a local save. If your PS4 has an eligible installed copy, try the checks below in order; they are general PlayStation and WB Games troubleshooting steps, not nine fixes verified specifically for MultiVersus.
Before troubleshooting: can this PS4 still run MultiVersus?
WB Games stated that “After Season 5, MultiVersus will no longer be available to play online or download via the PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.” Season 5 ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025. WB says players who installed the latest version and logged in during that period on each platform received a local save for offline play. That offline version supports solo play against AI, local play for up to three players, and The Lab. WB Games’ Season 5 FAQ has the shutdown details.
That means deleting the game is not a routine first step: after the shutdown, a new PSN download is not available, and a removed copy may not be recoverable. If the game is already installed but you did not create the required local save during Season 5, these steps cannot restore online service or create offline eligibility.
Try these nine PS4 troubleshooting steps
Test the game after each practical change so you can identify what helped. If the screen shows a padlock or access denial rather than a crash, start with the account and license checks.

1. Restart the PS4
Fully restart the console, then try launching MultiVersus again. PlayStation includes a restart among its general game-start troubleshooting steps.
2. Check the account and restore licenses if access is denied
Make sure you are using the PlayStation account that owns the game. If the game displays a padlock or another access error, restore licenses using PlayStation’s account and license guidance. This is an access check, not a universal remedy for crashes.

3. Check PlayStation Network status for access or login problems
Check PlayStation’s game-launch troubleshooting page for its service-status guidance. A PSN outage could affect account access, but it cannot explain MultiVersus’ permanent online shutdown: online play ended after May 30, 2025.
4. Check the PS4 system software and installed game version
Confirm that the PS4 system software is current and that the installed game is the latest version available to your account. PlayStation explains how to check system and application versions in its update instructions. MultiVersus’ final update was Season 5; do not expect a new game patch to address a crash.

5. Check the installation drive and storage connection
If MultiVersus is installed on USB extended storage, confirm that the drive is connected properly. A loose or disconnected drive can prevent games stored on it from starting.
6. Delete and reinstall only if your account can still download it
WB Games recommends deleting and reinstalling as a general response to PS4 game crashes, because a crash can indicate an installation problem. But MultiVersus is no longer downloadable through PSN after May 30, 2025. Before deleting anything, confirm that the game is available to your account and that you can download it again; otherwise, you could lose access to the installed copy. 7. Use a wired connection for any permitted re-download
If you are eligible to download the game again, PlayStation suggests trying a wired internet connection during the download. This may help with a download or installation problem; it cannot restore MultiVersus downloads for accounts that no longer have access.
8. Rebuild the PS4 database from Safe Mode
PlayStation lists rebuilding the database among its troubleshooting options. Follow the official Safe Mode instructions linked from its game-launch guide and select the database rebuild option. This is a general console troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed repair for MultiVersus files. If using Safe Mode requires connecting a controller, check the connector type for your DualShock 4 before using a data-capable USB cable.

9. Contact PlayStation or WB Games with details if it still crashes
Record any error code or message, describe exactly what happens, and list the steps that reproduce the crash. A screenshot or video can help. PlayStation requests these details when escalating game-start issues, and WB Games directs players with unresolved general crash problems to its support team.

If other games also crash or fail to start, broaden the diagnosis to the console, storage, or system software rather than assuming MultiVersus is the cause. Avoid initializing the PS4 or reinstalling system software as an early experiment: those are more destructive options, and PlayStation advises backing up data before system software reinstallation. Start with the reversible checks above and use official support if the issue affects multiple games.
