MultiVersus’ online functionality ended on May 30, 2025. Offline play was announced for players who downloaded the latest version and logged in during Season 5, which ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025. If you did not meet both conditions, the available sources do not show a way to unlock offline play now.
Why MultiVersus is offline
The game’s online service shut down on May 30, 2025. A community-maintained patch-notes page records the shutdown and says offline play was intended for players who logged in during Season 5. MultiVersus Wiki.gg patch notes
The access window came from the shutdown announcement dated January 31, 2025. The available copy is a community repost, not the original publisher page. It says players needed to download the latest version and log in between February 4 and May 30, 2025, to play offline afterward. Reposted shutdown announcement
Who can play offline
Based on the announcement, offline access depended on both account activity during Season 5 and having downloaded the latest version. These are separate conditions: having the game installed alone does not establish eligibility, and the available sources do not describe a way to add qualifying account activity after the window closed.

- Latest version downloaded: The announcement also named this as a requirement for post-shutdown offline play.
- Neither condition met, or uncertain: The sources do not identify an alternative unlock or account-recovery method.
What offline modes were announced
The announced offline options were local play against AI, local play with up to three other players, and Training mode. They are offline modes; the shutdown did not leave online matchmaking available.
What to check if Offline Mode still blocks you
- Check your account history. Determine whether you logged into MultiVersus at least once during Season 5, February 4–May 30, 2025. The access condition was tied to that period.
- Check the installed game version. The announcement required downloading the latest version. If your platform offers an update, install it and try launching again.
- Choose an announced offline mode. Try Training or a local match against AI or other players, rather than an online mode that depended on the shut-down service.
- If you meet the requirements but still cannot enter local play, consult current support guidance for your platform or the publisher. The sources available here do not establish a verified platform-specific fix.
Why older “unable to authenticate” reports do not prove a current bug
A Steam Community discussion titled “offline mode doesn’t work,” posted February 24, 2025, includes a player reporting an “unable to authenticate” error. Replies note that the game was still online-only then, before the shutdown and promised offline access. That thread documents a pre-shutdown problem; it does not verify that the same defect persists after May 30, 2025, or show that a particular workaround works. Steam Community discussion
