Naomi Osaka and Sara Bejlek meet in the China Open third round in Beijing, with Osaka’s 2019 title and greater experience set against Bejlek’s strong 2026 breakthrough season. It is their first meeting, so there is no head-to-head result to settle the question. Osaka is the market favorite in one Australia-specific odds snapshot, but Bejlek arrives after a straightforward opening win.
When does Osaka play Bejlek?
The match is a third-round fixture at the China Open, a WTA 1000 outdoor hard-court tournament in Beijing running September 30 to October 11, 2026. The singles draw has 96 players. The WTA’s tournament guide places third-round play on October 4–5; it does not establish this match’s specific date, court or start time. Check the live order of play for the confirmed schedule.
Both players received first-round byes as seeds: Osaka is No. 12 and Bejlek No. 20. Their second-round matches were each their tournament opener.
How did Osaka and Bejlek reach the third round?
| Player | Second-round result | Time | Beijing context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naomi Osaka | Defeated Maria Timofeeva 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 | 2 hours, 4 minutes | Beijing champion in 2019 |
| Sara Bejlek | Defeated qualifier Maddison Inglis 6-3, 7-5 | 1 hour, 33 minutes | Making her Beijing debut |
Osaka’s win was her first match since losing to eventual US Open champion Elena Rybakina. Afterward, she told the WTA, “It was a tough match,” and said she had found it hard to get her bearings because she had not played since New York. That was her explanation of the Timofeeva match, not a medical or fitness update.

Naomi Osaka vs Sara Bejlek prediction
Osaka is the more defensible pick, but the case rests on experience and her record in Beijing rather than a proven matchup advantage. She has already won here, while Bejlek is playing the event for the first time. Osaka’s three-set opener adds uncertainty, but one match’s length is not enough to conclude that she is out of form or physically compromised.
Bejlek has credible reasons to make this competitive: she advanced in straight sets, and her Abu Dhabi title and Cincinnati run mark a substantial 2026 season. With no previous meeting and no established serve, return or surface-stat comparison in the available match evidence, a precise tactical edge would be guesswork. The pick is Osaka to win, with less confidence than the seed and market gap alone might suggest.

Betting tips
- Match winner: Osaka is the cautious side, consistent with the cited odds snapshot, but that price is dated and may have moved.
- Bejlek as an underdog: Her 2026 results make an upset plausible, but the available evidence does not support a confident alternative bet or a specific set-score call.
- Before placing a bet: Recheck the confirmed order of play and live odds. The odds and model figure above are a dated Australian-market snapshot, not betting advice or a guaranteed outcome.
