The Needolin opens Weaver doors that lead to Weavenests. It does not open every locked door in the game, so a door that ignores it may simply be the wrong kind.
Before you start: get the Needolin
The Needolin is learned by defeating Widow in Bellhart and binding her power. Until you have it, no door will respond to the melody, so this is the first thing to check if you are stuck at a Weaver gate.

How to open a Needolin door
- Identify the door. Needolin doors are circular gates with a web-like pattern. Ordinary locked doors and large gates with other designs are not Needolin doors.
- Make sure Hornet has Silk. The Needolin uses Silk for each performance, and Silk is replenished by striking enemies.
- Walk up to the door so Hornet is close to it. Being in the general room is not enough.
- Hold your Needolin ability button. The input differs by platform and may have been remapped, so check your controls screen if you are unsure which button it is.
- Keep holding until the melody plays through to the end. Releasing early or interrupting the sequence can prevent the door from opening.
When the sequence completes, the door opens onto a Weavenest entrance.

- Door design: confirm it has the circular Weaver pattern. Only these doors respond to the Needolin.
- Silk: confirm Hornet has Silk available. An empty Silk gauge will stop the performance.
- Distance: move closer to the door and try again.
- Full melody: hold the input until the whole sequence has played.
These troubleshooting steps come from a community guide. They are practical advice rather than published developer specifications, so if a door behaves differently, treat it as a case to test rather than a confirmed rule.
Known Needolin door locations
A specialist walkthrough site lists five Needolin door locations. PC Gamer independently describes the Atla entrance and a Snare Setter inside it, which is the strongest confirmation in the sources reviewed. Area names differ slightly between sources, so the table notes which name each source uses.

Route and reward details vary in quality across guides. Treat this list as player-reported locations rather than an official, exhaustive map, and expect that the exact path to a door may take some searching.
Quest-specific Needolin doors
The game’s reference database documents two cases that go beyond ordinary Weavenest doors. The first is a Needolin-opened Weavenest door found in Widow’s memory. The second is a later great door tied to the OPEN: Grand Gate quest, which becomes available after five Bellshrines are activated. Both are part of quest progression. Neither shows that every large gate responds to the Needolin, so do not assume a big door will open just because you have the instrument.

Other things the Needolin does
Door-opening is only one use. According to the community game reference, the Needolin can:
- Trigger unique dialogue from some NPCs and enemies.
- Stun some enemies.
- Reveal specific messages and memories.
- Prompt Silk Flies in The Mist to indicate the correct path.
- Activate some lore tablets.
- Support Bell Beast movement when paired with Beastling Call.
- Serve specific quest-related functions later in the game.
Platforms and physical editions
Team Cherry’s official game page lists Silksong as available on PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Needolin works the same way across these listings as far as the sources describe, though the control layout varies by platform.

A May 2026 Windows Central report describes physical editions that include a 32-page manual and a poster, and gives October 16, 2026 as the expected release date for those physical releases. Pricing and retailer stock were not verified in the sources reviewed, so check current listings before buying, and confirm that any listing you choose is for the platform you own.
No choice between competing Needolin methods exists. The Needolin is the mechanic for Weaver doors, so the only real decisions are which platform and which physical format you want.
The Needolin’s in-game description, from the community reference, reads: “Holy Weaver talent. Play ancient melodies by stringing Silk along the needle.”
