3. If the black screen followed a display change, consider the reported resolution workaround
One player reported a black screen after choosing fullscreen at a resolution their monitor did not support. A reply suggested editing the game’s saved setting in Windose_Data/Settings.es3: find RESOLUTION and change its value to 1 or 2. This is anecdotal community advice from 2023—not an official fix—and the available report does not establish which display resolutions those values select.

Windose_Data/Settings.es3. - Make a backup copy of
Settings.es3before editing it. - If the file contains a
RESOLUTIONsetting, the player-reported workaround is to try1or2as its value. - Save the edit and see whether the game starts. If it does not help, restore your backup rather than making unrelated changes.
