“netnccim.dll is missing” or “netnccim.dll was not found”
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
netnccim.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component, not a normal game or application runtime DLL. It belongs to the DA Network Connectivity WMI Provider, where “DA” refers to DirectAccess and the provider supports networking-related WMI classes in the RootStandardCimv2 namespace.
If Windows reports that netnccim.dll is missing, corrupt, could not be loaded, or has an invalid entry point, repair Windows rather than downloading a replacement file. The provider is associated with NetNCCim.mof and Windows servicing, so copying a DLL into an application folder usually leaves the underlying problem unresolved.
Which fix applies to you
Use this order:
- The error appeared after an update, rollback, cleanup, or crash: install pending Windows updates, then run DISM and SFC.
- The file was quarantined: inspect Windows Security Protection History, scan the computer, and verify the file before restoring anything.
- The error began after a driver or networking change: use System Restore, then update or reinstall the affected driver if necessary.
- The error continues after repair: use a matching repair source or an in-place Windows repair installation.
- The file is outside the Windows directory or has no valid Microsoft signature: treat it as suspicious and investigate for malware.
- A particular application displays the error: repair that application only after confirming that it is actually calling the Windows provider.
Do not start with a DLL download website. There is no verified Microsoft redistributable that distributes netnccim.dll as a standalone download.
1. Install Windows updates first
A failed or incomplete update can leave protected system files and their supporting component metadata out of sync.

#1 Best Overall
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Try the operation that produced the error again.
Microsoft’s Windows Update instructions cover the current update process.
If the error remains, continue with component repair. Updating alone may not restore a damaged file.
2. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Run DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store, which SFC uses as the source for replacing damaged protected files.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the program or Windows feature that reported the error.
Do not close the window while either scan is running. DISM may appear to pause for a while.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA successful SFC result normally says that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once.
The Microsoft System File Checker guidance explains the sequence and result messages. Microsoft also documents DISM image repair.
Manually hunting through Windows versions and repeatedly guessing whether SFC or DISM changed anything can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can show a free scan of reported system problems, while repair actions are handled by the full version; it is optional, and Windows servicing remains the preferred fix for this Microsoft component.
If DISM cannot find repair files
If DISM says that source files could not be found, use a matching Windows installation or network source. In an elevated Command Prompt, the syntax can look like this:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ^
/Source:\serverc$windows /LimitAccess
The source must closely match the affected installation, including its Windows release and servicing branch. A source from another architecture or substantially different build can fail or introduce a mismatch. See Microsoft’s Windows Update corruption repair guidance before choosing a repair source.
3. Check the file’s location and signature
The filename alone does not prove that a file is genuine. A legitimate copy should be part of the Windows component structure and have a valid Microsoft signature.
To search under the Windows directory:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
where /r "%windir%" netnccim.dll
To inspect the signature and metadata with PowerShell:
- Open Start.
- Type
PowerShell. - Right-click Windows PowerShell or PowerShell.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
Get-ChildItem "$env:windir" -Filter netnccim.dll -Recurse -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
ForEach-Object {
$_
Get-AuthenticodeSignature $_.FullName
}
A file in a user profile, Downloads folder, temporary directory, or unrelated application directory deserves additional scrutiny. Do not delete a suspicious file before recording its location and scanning the system, because security software or an administrator may need that evidence.

4. Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine a genuine file after a detection, or malware may have attempted to replace it.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections involving
netnccim.dll. - Note the detected file path and reason.
- Run a Full scan before restoring anything.
If the detection identifies malware, do not restore the file. Let DISM and SFC replace the Windows copy, then restart and scan again.
If the file was quarantined as a possible false positive, verify its Windows location and Microsoft digital signature first. Microsoft warns in its Protection History guidance that restoring a detected file can cause another detection. Restore it only when its authenticity and safety are established.

5. Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is useful when the problem began after an update, driver installation, networking change, or other system modification.
- Press Win+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the error began.
- Choose Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the drivers, updates, and applications that may be changed.
- Confirm the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally preserves personal files but rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, updates, and installed programs. Microsoft describes the process in its System Restore documentation.
If no suitable restore point exists, return to DISM/SFC and proceed to a repair installation.
6. Update networking and system drivers only when indicated
A driver does not normally provide netnccim.dll, but a recent networking or system configuration change can expose a Windows provider or compatibility problem.
Check Device Manager as follows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Look for warning icons or a device that disappeared after the failure began.
- Right-click the affected adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the problem started immediately after a driver update, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver when that button is available. Otherwise, obtain the driver through Windows Update or the computer or adapter manufacturer’s official support channel.
Driver-by-driver version hunting is difficult when several networking devices are installed. Outbyte Driver Updater can show a free scan of driver issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional, and it does not replace DISM, SFC, or the definitive repair of Windows.
Do not remove a working network adapter driver merely because an application mentions netnccim.dll. The error may be caused by Windows component corruption rather than the adapter.
7. Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
netnccim.dll is documented as a WMI provider tied to provider and MOF metadata, not as an ordinary ActiveX control or self-registering application DLL. Running a command such as this is therefore not a standard repair:
regsvr32 netnccim.dll
A successful registration message would not rebuild a missing component manifest, catalog, WMI provider metadata, or dependent Windows files. Microsoft’s DLL and OCX registration guidance applies when an application specifically requires registration; it does not establish that this provider should be registered manually.
8. Check Windows Features only for a matching symptom
DirectAccess and related management features are not a general source for replacing this file. Do not enable or disable random Windows Features because an error mentions a DLL.
If your organization deliberately uses a Windows feature related to networking or management:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Optional features.
- Review installed features.
- On older Windows interfaces, open Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off.
- Change only a feature that your administrator or documented deployment requires.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
A feature change will not reliably repair a corrupted provider. Use DISM and SFC for that purpose.

On supported Windows 11 installations, try the repair option that preserves your environment:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Keep the computer connected to power and the internet.
- Allow Windows to complete the reinstall and restart.
Microsoft says this reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. The steps are described in Microsoft’s repair-reinstall instructions.
If that option is unavailable, use official Windows installation media:
- Start the media from within Windows.
- Begin the installation.
- Select Change what to keep.
- Choose Keep personal files and apps.
- Continue only after confirming that selection.
Follow Microsoft’s installation-media repair guidance. Back up important data first. A reset or clean installation is a later escalation for severe corruption, not the first response to one missing DLL.
Common error messages and what they indicate
These are common Windows loader-message patterns associated with a missing, damaged, or incompatible copy:
Best Value
netnccim.dll is missingnetnccim.dll was not foundThe code execution cannot proceed because netnccim.dll was not foundnetnccim.dll could not be loadedThe procedure entry point ... could not be located in netnccim.dllnetnccim.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error
These wordings do not identify one confirmed incident or one particular application. The useful clue is when the message appeared and whether the file is missing, unsigned, quarantined, or the wrong architecture.
FAQ
Is netnccim.dll safe?
A genuine Windows copy should have a valid Microsoft signature and be located within the Windows component structure. A file in Downloads, a temporary folder, a user profile, or an unrelated application directory needs malware review. Filename matching is not authentication.
Does it belong to a game or Microsoft Office?
Microsoft documentation identifies it with the DA Network Connectivity WMI Provider and Windows networking infrastructure. It is not established as an Office, Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or game-runtime component. An application may call the Windows provider, but that does not make the application the file’s owner.
Should I download netnccim.dll?
No. There is no verified standalone Microsoft download package for this DLL. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, or official Windows repair media.
Do Windows 10 and Windows 11 use the same file?
Do not assume that. Microsoft’s published inventories demonstrate that Windows files vary by release, architecture, and update. x86 and x64 copies are not interchangeable, and one universal path or hash should not be expected.
What if only one application reports the error?
Check the application’s exact error and installation history, then repair or reinstall it from its official installer if it is genuinely damaged. Do not copy netnccim.dll into the application directory unless Microsoft or the application developer explicitly documents that requirement.

Prevention
Keep Windows updated, avoid aggressive system cleaners that remove protected files, and do not mix DLLs from different Windows architectures or releases. If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, investigate the detection and system integrity instead of adding an unverified exclusion. The durable fix is a correctly serviced Windows installation with its WMI provider metadata and protected files restored together.
