For charts from other sources, download and extract the archive, put each song in its own folder inside your Songs directory, then run Scan Songs in Settings. You can customize gameplay visuals with image or video backgrounds, highway textures, album-art icons, and color profiles.
Where to get Clone Hero songs
Officially released charts
The Clone Hero v1.1 release announcement describes a launcher feature for browsing and downloading officially released Clone Hero charts. Open the launcher and look for its song-download or browse option. This is the clearest official route documented for those charts; the announcement is specific to v1.1, so the exact launcher interface may differ in later versions. Charts from community sources
Players also import charts they find through community sites and discussions. There is no verified, comprehensive directory of currently maintained chart sites established here, so check that a source and its download links are still active. Before importing, inspect the archive and confirm it contains the audio and chart files you need, including the instrument and difficulty you want. Community recommendations can go stale, and packaging varies.
How to add downloaded songs
- Extract the download. If the chart arrives in an archive, unpack it first.
- Keep each song in its own folder. Place the extracted song folder inside the game’s Songs directory; avoid putting multiple songs together in one folder if each chart has its own folder.
- Use the Songs directory for your setup. The Clone Hero Wiki FAQ lists
Documents/Clone Hero/Songson Windows and~/Clone Hero/Songson Mac and Linux. On Android, it points to the Clone Hero folder in internal storage. A portable installation keeps Songs alongside the game installation. Clone Hero Wiki FAQ. - Scan for changes. In Clone Hero, open Settings and choose Scan Songs after adding or removing content. The new charts should then appear in the song list.
How to customize the gameplay screen
The Clone Hero Wiki documents several kinds of visual customization. Backgrounds are separate from chart downloads, so a chart may not include the look you want.

- Image and video backgrounds: Put the relevant files in the corresponding Image Background or Video Background folder.
- Highway textures: Change the appearance of the note highway. The Wiki FAQ recommends 512×1024 for a highway image.
- Album-art icons: Use custom icons to change the artwork shown for songs.
- Color profiles: Adjust the colors used in gameplay.
The Wiki says backgrounds scale to your display and recommends choosing an image with the same aspect ratio as the screen for the best fit. Its 512×1024 highway size is a recommendation, not a requirement. - Does the chart include the instrument and difficulty you want?
- Are the required audio and chart files present after extraction?
- Is the download organized as one song per folder, or will you need to reorganize it?
- Does the download include its own visuals, or will you need to add backgrounds and other cosmetics separately?
A guitar controller is optional for adding songs and visuals. If you plan to play with one, compatibility depends on the controller, adapter, platform, and setup; check those details for your specific hardware rather than assuming every guitar works the same way.
