For the October 2024 builds documented here, pair the Fire Staff with the Ice Gauntlet in both modes, but use different Fire Staff skills: PvE favors Pillar of Fire, Fireball, and Flamethrower for sustained area damage; PvP uses Fireball, Burnout, and either Pillar of Fire or Flamethrower. These are dated guide examples, not verified current-meta builds. Check the live weapon tooltips and balance screen before copying them.
Why the PvE and PvP builds differ
Do not assume the same damage values apply in both modes. Amazon Games explains that magic and ranged base damage was increased for PvE and reduced again in PvP, with values tuned separately by mode. Its game-mode flyout and weapon mastery tooltips show the relevant values in game. Amazon Games’ Rise of the Angry Earth release notes describe this mode-specific tuning.
That distinction matters when choosing between sustained damage, burst, area coverage, mobility, and defensive utility. The October 2024 examples below are useful starting points, but neither source establishes one universally optimal setup.
PvE: Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet Flamethrower Mage
Icy Veins’ PvE guide, last updated October 11, 2024, presents this as a beginner-friendly sustained-damage and area-damage configuration. Its Fire Staff selection is:

- Pillar of Fire
- Fireball
- Flamethrower
The guide pairs it with these Ice Gauntlet skills:
- Ice Storm
- Ice Pylon
- Entombed
The setup emphasizes ongoing output and area damage rather than promising top performance against every target. The guide cautions that Fire Staff use can be situational in PvE: enemy elemental-resistance rotations and comparative damage can affect whether it is a good fit for a particular expedition. PvP: Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet
Icy Veins’ October 2024 PvP configuration also pairs the Fire Staff with the Ice Gauntlet, but gives the Fire Staff a more flexible third-slot choice:

For the Ice Gauntlet, the guide lists Ice Spikes or Ice Shower, Ice Storm, and Entombed. Burnout supplies the mobility option in this selection, while Entombed is included among the defensive tools. The alternative skills let the setup lean toward different pressure and utility choices; the page does not establish either variant as a universal best-in-slot answer. Balance changes make old skill advice date-sensitive
Fire Staff advice from 2024 should be read against its patch period. Amazon Games’ Season of the Banner notes changed several values: Smolder tick damage went from 5% to 4.5% weapon damage per tick, Fiery Restoration’s cooldown reduction went from 10% to 7%, and Pillar of Fire’s cooldown went from 10 to 15 seconds. These are patch values, not player-performance measurements. Amazon Games’ Season of the Banner release notes document the changes.
Earlier changes also affected Pillar of Fire, Meteor Shower, Fireball, and related upgrades. That history is another reason not to rely on an old skill description when the live tooltip may reflect later tuning. Amazon Games’ Season 1 release notes list those adjustments.

There were later adjustments to Fire Staff PvE damage as well. Amazon Games’ Season of the Divide notes report a 4.8% increase to Fire Staff PvE base damage, alongside an additional reduction in PvP. This describes a balance change, not a DPS ranking or evidence of how often the weapon is played. Read the Season of the Divide release notes.

- For PvE sustained and area damage: Start with the October 2024 Flamethrower Mage skill selection, then account for the expedition’s enemy resistances and current mode-specific values.
- For PvP flexibility: Use the October 2024 Fireball and Burnout framework as a dated reference; choose the third Fire Staff skill based on whether Pillar of Fire or Flamethrower better serves your intended pressure and utility.
- For either mode: Verify the current mastery tooltip and mode flyout rather than transferring PvE damage assumptions into PvP or relying on historical cooldown and damage values.
Amazon Games has described balance as ongoing: “Balance is an ever-evolving part of gameplay and we will continue to make further adjustments based on feedback to create the best possible experience for players.” The PTR announcement provides that context, but does not validate either October 2024 build for the current game.
