To upgrade the staff, keep progressing through the main story and complete the quests that award higher tiers. Because Amazon Games has revised parts of the early story and the Tier 4 route, use the objective shown in your current Journal rather than relying on an older guide’s fixed level or quest-location sequence.
What the Azoth Staff does
The Azoth Staff is a story-progression tool used in the fight against corruption. Amazon Games describes it as “a crucial weapon in the fight against corruption” in its quest-design overview. It is used to close Corruption Breaches.
Amazon Games’ 2021 patch notes gave these breach limits when Tier 2 and Tier 3 were introduced:

These are historical values from the 2021 update notes, not a newly verified 2026 balance table. The sources cited here do not establish breach limits for Tiers 4 and 5.

How to get your first Azoth Staff
- Open your Journal and track the Main Story objective. Follow the active objective and its map marker. Amazon Games says the starting experience and early main story leading to the staff have received changes, so older guides’ exact level and location instructions may no longer match your route.
- Continue the main story until the staff-awarding objective appears. Complete the quest to receive the staff. Side quests alone are not the documented route to the item; the official guidance ties it to main-story progression.
- Check your inventory after completing the quest. If you do not see the item, confirm that the quest objective is complete and review the Journal for the next active main-story step.
How to upgrade the Azoth Staff
There is no ordinary equipment-upgrade menu or crafting-station recipe involved in the documented progression. Higher staff tiers are awarded by continuing the Main Story Questline and completing its tier-awarding quests. Amazon Games’ 2021 notes describe Tier 2 and Tier 3 as main-story unlocks, while its 2023 release notes describe a revised path for Tier 4 through the new Edengrove main-story quests, while also recognizing the older route.
Older community guides may list quest names such as “Forge Your Azoth Staff,” “Covenant Commitment,” “The Alliance,” “Race for the Box,” or “The Tempest’s Heart.” Treat those names as historical signposts rather than a complete, current tier checklist: the official sources confirm that story routes have changed but do not establish the complete current quest names or level thresholds for Tiers 1–5.

If the next staff quest is missing
- Open the Journal and check the Main Story section for an active or incomplete objective.
- Follow the current map marker and finish preceding main-story steps; a later tier quest may depend on earlier story progression.
- Use the Journal’s current objective instead of trying to match an old guide’s fixed character level or location order.
- If you are checking a reward-screen label, note that Amazon Games’ 2025 release notes corrected which quest the Tier 1 staff unlocks with on the Leveling Rewards screen. The screen’s label may not be a reliable substitute for the active Journal objective.
Do you need a specific staff tier for world interactions?
Not according to Amazon Games’ 2024 compatibility fix: “All Tiers of Azoth Staff should satisfy the Azoth Staff requirement anywhere in the world where the staff is required.” The Season of the Guardian release notes therefore make older instructions to obtain a particular tier solely to satisfy a staff-required world interaction potentially outdated. This compatibility statement does not change the historical breach-level limits listed above.
