NFL teams designate game-day inactives about 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff. Check the league’s NFL Inactives page or NFL.com’s game-week inactive report for the matchup. If the page is empty earlier, that does not mean there are no inactives—the reports may not be posted yet.
When do NFL teams announce inactives?
The expected window is about 90 minutes before the game is scheduled to start, according to NFL Support. NFL Football Operations describes a 90-minute pregame officiating meeting where a club’s Game Day Administration Report, including its inactive list, is delivered. That is a procedural timing reference, not a guarantee that every public page updates at an exact minute.
The designation is specific to that game and comes close to kickoff. An injury update from earlier in the week may not tell you whether a player will be on the final game-day inactive list.
Where to find the NFL inactive list
- Open the official NFL Inactives page: nfl.com/inactives. Before reports are available, the page may show “Please check back soon.”
- Look for NFL.com’s game-week inactive report: Its articles group inactive players by matchup and team. For example, NFL.com published a 2026 Week 1 report.
- Check again near the 90-minute pregame window: If the NFL page has not populated, return closer to kickoff. You can also check the teams’ official channels, but posting schedules and formats are not uniform enough to promise a particular time or location.
How the inactive list differs from injury news
Weekly injury designations and game-day inactives answer different questions. “Questionable” indicates uncertainty about whether a player will play; “Doubtful” indicates the player is unlikely to participate; and “Out” means the player will not play, according to NFL.com’s 2016 explanation of injury designations. That article is historical, so treat those descriptions as context rather than a complete statement of every current injury-report rule.
