On an NFL injury report, “Did Not Participate” means zero percent of a player’s normal practice repetitions, “Limited Participation” means less than 100 percent, and “Full Participation” means 100 percent. These labels describe practice work—not whether the player will play in the game. Check the separate game-status designation for that information.
What do full, limited and did not practice mean?
The NFL defines practice participation by how much of a player’s normal repetitions he completes. That includes both individual drills and the team portion of practice. The league’s 2017 injury-report policy defines the three labels as follows:
| Practice label | Share of normal repetitions | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Did Not Participate (DNP) | 0% | No normal practice repetitions. |
| Limited Participation | Less than 100% | Some, but not all, normal repetitions. |
| Full Participation | 100% | All normal repetitions. |
The percentages are relative to the player’s usual practice workload, not a universal number of minutes or snaps. The policy gives a practical example: a player who takes part in individual drills but skips the team portion is still listed as limited. Seeing a player on the field therefore does not, by itself, mean he completed a full practice.
Do practice labels tell you whether a player will play?
No. Practice participation and game status are separate fields on NFL injury reports. Full participation does not guarantee that a player will play, and limited participation does not establish that he will miss the game. The league’s Week 4, 2026 report illustrates that the labels can coexist: players appear as Full Participation while also carrying a Questionable game designation.

For game availability, read the game-status designation separately. The NFL defines Questionable as uncertain whether the player will play, Doubtful as unlikely to participate, and Out as not playing. Those terms are not alternate ways of saying full, limited or did not practice, and the participation labels alone do not provide a reliable probability of playing.
Why is participation judged against a player’s normal role?
The normal-repetitions standard means that a practice label reflects the player’s work in context, rather than simply whether he took part in some activity. The NFL reported that Baltimore initially listed quarterback Lamar Jackson as full, then corrected the report to limited after the team and league considered that he had practiced with the scout team rather than taking starter repetitions. The league reported fining the club $100,000 for the policy violation. That case illustrates how the standard is applied; it is not a routine or automatic penalty for every reporting error. What happened to “Probable”?
Probable is not a current NFL game-status category. In its 2016 announcement revising the injury-report policy, the league said it removed that designation. The announcement noted that approximately 95 percent of players listed as Probable in prior years played in the game; that is a historical figure cited in 2016, not a current-season forecast.
