What is Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound?
Developed by The Game Kitchen and published by Dotemu, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a new side-scrolling game set in the Ninja Gaiden universe. Its stated aim is to combine classic-era lore and gameplay with the depth and intensity associated with the series’ modern 3D entries. KOEI TECMO identifies it as an IP-licensed title.

The game launched on July 31, 2025. Official listings and KOEI TECMO’s January 2026 platform coverage include:

- PC via Steam and GOG
The later KOEI TECMO list includes Switch 2; the initial launch-platform list did not.

How does Ragebound reimagine the classic games?
The design draws on the fast-paced hack-and-slash platforming of the classic games while adding modern combat mechanics. In a PlayStation Blog development post, David Jaumandreu, Producer & Game Director at The Game Kitchen, said the team wanted offense and evasion to flow together, with responsive movement across the ground, walls, and air. As he put it, “The goal was to create a seamless flow where players could chain offensive moves and evasions without interruption, resulting in a dynamic, ninja-like spectacle.”
That describes an adaptation of the series’ 2D roots, not a recreation of one specific NES or 3D game. The development account says the team studied games from both the late 1980s and early 2000s, aiming to connect those eras rather than reproduce their exact level design, controls, or challenge.

Who are Kenji and Kumori?
The story begins with Ryu Hayabusa away in America as a breach between the human and demon worlds threatens Hayabusa Village. Kenji Mozu, a young ninja trained by Ryu, joins forces with Kumori, an assassin from the Black Spider Clan. Official store descriptions place both characters at the center of play and identify Ninja Fusion as a key combat ability.
Is Ragebound as hard as classic Ninja Gaiden?
Not in the same way, according to the reviews cited here. GamesRadar says Ragebound demands less memorization and is less punishing than classic entries, while noting checkpoints and the value of learning enemy patterns. PC Gamer also calls it an accessible revival and describes its action as more momentum-driven.

Those are reviewers’ assessments, not a universal difficulty measurement. They point to a shift in emphasis: the game retains demanding action and pattern learning, but its retry costs and pacing do not simply duplicate the old games. PC Gamer reviewer Abbie Stone summarized its approach as “A fun revival that opts for solid fundamentals over innovation.”
Are physical and collector editions available?
A GAME Spain catalog from September 2025 documented standard physical editions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. It described those editions as including the soundtrack and a booklet. The same catalog listed a limited Special Edition containing:
