Ninjala producer Motoki Kaneda says his goal is for the series to continue “10 years, 20 years, and beyond.” The remark, reported by Nintendo Everything on October 3, 2026, is an ambition for the franchise—not a promise of a particular support period. The immediate next step is Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet, announced for Nintendo Switch 2 and planned for Spring 2027.
What did the Ninjala producer say?
Nintendo Everything reported that Kaneda described longevity as his goal: “I want Ninjala to continue for 10 years, 20 years, and beyond.” He added that the series now has Ninjala and Ninjala 2, and that continued long-term growth is what success would look like. The question, according to the report, asked what the series needed to become one of GungHo’s defining franchises.
The wording comes from Nintendo Everything’s account of an interview shared by Anime Updates. The original social post was not independently accessible, so the quotation should be understood as reported by Nintendo Everything rather than verified against a directly available transcript. Does this confirm Ninjala will run for 20 years?
No. Kaneda described a goal, not a confirmed operating plan, guaranteed lifespan, or commitment to support a particular game for a set number of years. The statement signals that GungHo wants to build the franchise over the long term, but it does not establish how long either game will receive updates or how many sequels may follow.

What is Ninjala 2, and how does it change the series?
The original Ninjala launched on Nintendo Switch in 2020 and centered on competitive player-versus-player battles. Kaneda said the original had reached 12 million downloads as conveyed in a September 16, 2026 interview; that is a download total, not a current player count, sales figure, or measure of active users.
Ninjala 2 shifts the format toward open-world action and player-versus-environment play. Kaneda said the team wanted to expand the characters and world, while responding to requests from players who wanted to play alone at their own pace or cooperate with friends. The announced design includes a main story for solo play or groups of up to four, side quests, exploration, crafting, and high-mobility ninja movement. These are developer descriptions of the planned game, not assessments of a released version.

Why move from PvP to an open-world game?
Kaneda tied the change to broadening the series beyond its battle format: the team wanted to develop its characters and setting, and to make room for both solo play and cooperation. In an AUTOMATON WEST interview, he said, “We want to continue expanding and nurturing the Ninjala IP going forward.” The open-world design is therefore presented as part of a wider effort to grow the franchise, rather than as a claim that the original competitive format is being replaced by a confirmed long-term service plan.
