Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a standalone alarm clock that uses motion sensing to turn waking up into an interactive, Nintendo-themed routine. When the alarm sounds, you can wave to quiet it; getting out of bed ends the sequence with a victory fanfare. It launched in the U.S. at $99.99, and Nintendo and GameStop listings showed a regular price of $109.99 on August 18, 2026. The clock does not connect to a Nintendo Switch or its successor.
That makes “gamifying” your morning a fair description—but Alarmo is not a video game with levels or scores. Its appeal is the themed wake-up experience, not advanced sleep analysis or smart-home features.
What happens when Alarmo goes off?
Alarmo is a dedicated bedside clock with a display, speaker, control dial, buttons, Wi-Fi and a motion sensor. It works as a clock and alarm without a Switch. Nintendo describes its goal as making waking up more fun; “gamifying” the process is an interpretation of how its motion-based alarm works.
- A selected Nintendo scene appears before the alarm.
- At the set time, gentle sounds begin and a character or object enters the scene.
- Movement such as waving can reduce the alarm’s volume.
- If you stay in bed, the alarm sequence repeats and becomes more intense in Steady Mode.
- Getting out of bed stops the alarm and triggers a short celebratory fanfare.
This is a small behavioral prompt, not a game system: there are no levels, scores, achievements or leaderboard. The idea is to make leaving bed part of the alarm routine rather than simply giving you another snooze button.

Nintendo scenes: 35 at launch, 74 on a current regional page
At its October 2024 announcement, Nintendo advertised 35 scenes drawn from Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure. That was the launch lineup, not the whole current catalog.
Nintendo’s Philippines product page lists 74 scenes and downloadable themes from games including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Bros., Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World, Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park and Donkey Kong Bananza. A scene is an individual alarm experience; a theme or title is the game or franchise it draws from. Treat 74 as the count shown on that regional page, not a guarantee that every region or software version has the same catalog.
Alarm modes and other features
- Steady Mode: The alarm grows more intense the longer you remain in bed.
- Gentle Mode: Keeps the alarm at a more consistent intensity.
- Moderate Mode: An additional mode introduced in a software update.
- Button Mode: Disables motion-sensing alarm interaction for a more traditional, button-controlled experience.
Motion-based features work only when the clock is not in Button Mode. Button Mode is especially useful if the sensor is unreliable in your room, or if you share a bed or have a pet that can move within its detection area.
Alarmo also offers Sleepy Sounds for winding down, hourly chimes themed to a selected game, and a digital clock display for daytime use. Its Records feature can show information such as time spent in bed and movement during sleep; movement records require a software update. These are lightweight alarm-clock records, not measurements of sleep stages, sleep quality or health, and Alarmo should not be treated as a medical sleep tracker.
Nintendo’s U.S. update-history page lists version 3.1.0, released October 19, 2025, as its latest version. The update added per-day alarm on/off, time and mode settings; Sleepy Sounds duration controls from one to 60 minutes; scene previews in alarm selection; improved Sleepy Sounds behavior; a brighter darkness-screen option; offline access to the device’s MAC address; and stability improvements. Separately, Nintendo’s Philippines product page lists content additions in April and July 2026. Those pages do not establish that every region has identical content or firmware, so check the support information for the country where you will use the clock.

Placement and setup: sensor position matters
For the motion alarm to work, Alarmo needs a clear view of the sleeper and a suitable position. Nintendo’s setup guidance says to keep it within 20 inches (50 cm) of the bed’s edge and no higher than 8 inches (20 cm) above the bed. Place it on a flat, stable surface, facing the center of the bed and within arm’s reach.
- Within 20 in / 50 cm of the bed edge
- No more than 8 in / 20 cm above the bed
- Facing the center of the bed, with an unobstructed sensor view
- On a stable surface near a wall outlet
Then connect the included USB-C cable to a separately purchased USB power adapter, set the language, region, time zone, date and time, configure the sensor zone, and choose an alarm scene, mode and time. If the clock does not respond as expected, recalibrate the sensor zone and check the placement before assuming the motion feature is faulty.

Alarmo is designed to stay plugged in; it is not a portable, battery-powered clock. The USB-C cable is included, but the AC adapter is not. Nintendo’s setup instructions specify a USB Type-A-to-C adapter capable of at least 5V/1.5A/7.5W, so account for buying a compatible adapter if you do not already have one. A backup battery preserves the current time during a power outage; it does not replace normal external power.
Wi-Fi is used for online features such as downloading scenes, firmware updates, Nintendo Account linking and internet time synchronization. The basic clock and traditional alarm functions can work without internet, though downloads, updates and online conveniences will not be available until connectivity is restored. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to buy or use Alarmo, according to Nintendo’s FAQ updated February 14, 2025.
Despite its Nintendo branding, Alarmo does not interact with a Switch or its successor. It is a standalone clock, not a console accessory.

Motion-sensor limits, shared beds and privacy
Alarmo supports standard bed sizes from Twin through King, but its sensor cannot identify a particular person. In a shared bed, it may stop when one sleeper gets up and then restart when it detects someone still in bed; it may also continue until everyone has left the sensor’s effective area. Couples should not count on it to wake only one person or to stop reliably when just one partner gets up. Nintendo recommends Button Mode for multiple sleepers and some pet-related situations.

Nintendo also warns that pets, electric fans and other moving objects can be mistaken for the user’s movement. If Alarmo keeps sounding after you get up, check that it is within the specified distance and height, move it to a stable, unobstructed spot, reduce unrelated movement in its detection area, and recalibrate its sensor zone. Pressing the dial can manually stop an alarm; if interference persists, use Button Mode.
Nintendo says Alarmo has no camera, detects motion without camera-based monitoring, and does not share movement-related data with Nintendo. Wi-Fi still supports online functions, including downloads, updates, time synchronization and account linking. This is Nintendo’s stated privacy position, not an independent privacy audit.
Is Alarmo worth its price?
Nintendo announced Alarmo at a U.S. suggested price of $99.99 in October 2024. On August 18, 2026, Nintendo’s product module and GameStop listed a regular price of $109.99; retailer prices and availability can change, and this U.S. price should not be assumed in other countries. Remember to factor in the separately sold power adapter if needed.

For comparison, a basic digital alarm clock listed at Target for $14.99 on August 18, 2026 can handle simple timekeeping and alarms for far less. That is not a feature-for-feature substitute: it does not offer Nintendo scenes, motion sensing or downloadable content. A phone or smart display may be a better fit if you prioritize multiple alarms, streaming, voice control or smart-home routines, while Alarmo better serves someone who wants a dedicated Nintendo-themed object and fewer reasons to reach for a phone.

The practical decision is whether that licensed, interactive experience is worth the premium for your household. If the bed, sleeper count or pet situation makes motion sensing impractical, Button Mode preserves a conventional alarm experience—but it also removes much of Alarmo’s distinctive appeal.
