A Nintendo eShop gift card is a prepaid code that adds funds to the Nintendo Account selected when you redeem it. The funds stay with that account: they cannot be transferred to another account, and the card must match the account’s country. Before buying or entering a code, check both details.
How a Nintendo eShop gift card works
The card provides prepaid value. Redeeming its code adds the value to one Nintendo Account’s eShop balance; it does not create a balance shared among every user on the console. Nintendo’s U.S. terms say the code balance becomes associated with the account used, is non-transferable, and the code has no remaining balance after redemption. Why the card’s country and account country must match
Nintendo eShop Cards are country-specific. Nintendo says a card can be redeemed only on a system or account set to the country for which it was issued, and it will not exchange a card from another country for a local one. Nintendo’s U.S. card terms, for example, limit use to U.S. accounts. Check the country shown on the card or retailer listing and the country set on the recipient’s Nintendo Account before buying. The eShop country follows the Nintendo Account country setting. If you change that setting, the eShop balance does not carry over; Nintendo says you must spend the remaining funds before changing the country. Nintendo Support: changing country/region

Can eShop funds be moved to another account?
No. Funds belong to the Nintendo Account that received them and cannot be transferred or shared with a different account. If a balance appears to be missing, first check which account was selected when the card was redeemed. Then check the balance for each account on the console and on the Nintendo Account website. Nintendo says its online transaction history can show activity up to two years back. Nintendo Support: checking account balances

Nintendo’s U.S. card terms state: “Code balance does not expire, and there are no fees associated with the code.” The same U.S. terms say the balance cannot be redeemed for cash and is non-refundable unless required by law; Nintendo or the retailer will not replace a lost or stolen code. Those statements describe Nintendo’s U.S. card terms, not necessarily the terms for cards sold in every market. Nintendo eShop Card Terms and Conditions
