Nintendo of America raised U.S. prices for the original Nintendo Switch family and select accessories effective August 3, 2025, citing “market conditions.” Its announcement named the standard Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model and Nintendo Switch Lite, but did not say every accessory was affected.
Which original Switch models were included?
Nintendo of America’s August 1, 2025 pricing notice listed three console models:
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch Lite
The notice also covered select Nintendo Switch accessories without identifying every affected accessory in the retrieved announcement. The change was for the U.S. market; it should not be read as a worldwide price increase.
When did the price increase take effect?
The revised pricing took effect August 3, 2025. Nintendo’s notice establishes the affected product categories and date, but does not provide a model-by-model list of revised U.S. manufacturer suggested retail prices. Check an authoritative current listing before relying on a specific figure; retailer prices and availability may differ.

Why did Nintendo raise original Switch prices?
Nintendo’s stated explanation was “based on market conditions.” The company did not attribute this specific increase to a single factor in the pricing notice.
There is broader context in Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa’s May 2025 investor Q&A. He said Nintendo considers manufacturing costs, consumers’ impression of a price, exchange-rate differences compared with the Switch launch, and market conditions in each region when setting hardware prices. Furukawa also described tariffs as part of the cost that Nintendo incorporates into prices when they are imposed. Those comments explain the company’s general pricing approach, but do not establish that tariffs alone caused the August 2025 increase.

Nintendo announced a separate U.S. Switch 2 MSRP revision on May 7, 2026: from $449.99 to $499.99, effective September 1, 2026. In that notice, Nintendo said original Nintendo Switch system pricing was not changing. This is a dated statement about system pricing, not a guarantee of each original Switch model’s current retailer price.
