Nintendo’s free Store app for iOS and Android puts games, consoles, accessories, merchandise, wish lists, and play activity on your phone. You can start a purchase there, but Nintendo says the app sends you to My Nintendo Store to complete it; it is a mobile storefront and account companion, not a native replacement for the Switch 2 or Switch eShop.
What the Nintendo Store app does
Nintendo Store is a free mobile app for discovering Nintendo products and using selected Nintendo Account features. Its catalog includes Switch 2 and Switch systems and accessories, physical and digital games, downloadable content, and other merchandise. Product pages, search, categories, wish lists, and store-related updates make it useful even when you are not ready to buy.
It is distinct from Nintendo’s other services: the Nintendo Switch App focuses on friends, screenshots, videos, and compatible game services; Nintendo Today! centers on news, videos, calendars, and events. The console eShop remains the console-native digital shop, while My Nintendo Store is Nintendo’s web storefront.

You can find a game or product in Nintendo Store and begin its purchase flow. Nintendo’s official app description says shoppers jump to My Nintendo Store to make purchases. The handoff may appear differently depending on the device, region, and app version, so “buy through the app” should not be read as a promise of checkout entirely inside a native app interface.

How a digital game purchase works
- Open Nintendo Store, sign in to your Nintendo Account if needed, and find the game.
- Choose the purchase option and follow the link to My Nintendo Store.
- Select the eligible Switch 2 or Switch console associated with your account during checkout.
- Complete the Nintendo store checkout. After purchase, the game is automatically downloaded to the selected console, subject to its internet connection and available storage.
Nintendo requires the account to have accessed the Nintendo eShop on a Switch 2 or Switch console at least once before making digital purchases through Nintendo.com. You do not need the console physically present for the online purchase, but that prior eShop access must have happened. See Nintendo’s digital-purchase requirements.
Physical products and regional availability
The app can show hardware, accessories, physical games, collectibles, apparel, and other merchandise, but seeing an item in the catalog does not mean it can be shipped to every country. Nintendo says the app is available on iOS and Android in regions where Nintendo eShop is available. In the Americas, its listed supported countries are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and the United States; physical-item purchases are listed only for the United States and Canada. Digital catalogs and prices, as well as shipping, taxes, and payment options, vary by market. Check the regional store listing before assuming a product is purchasable where you live. Wish lists, sale alerts, and account features
Tap the heart on a product to add it to a wish list. Nintendo says the app can notify you when wish-listed items go on sale; it also lists alerts for releases, events, drawing results, store updates, software information, and upcoming expirations. Notification options may change with app versions. To choose categories, open User Page, tap the Settings gear in the upper-right corner, then tap Notifications and toggle the alerts you want.
With a Nintendo Account, the app also offers a view of Switch 2 and Switch play activity, Gold and Platinum Point balances, purchase history, redeemable download codes or eShop cards, and recent activity. Nintendo says displayed play records can include game playtime and dates started when that data is available. The Apple listing describes wish-list sorting by release date and price and identification of purchased software or DLC in product lists; specific display details can vary by app version. Older 3DS and Wii U records
Legacy play activity is limited: Nintendo says 3DS and Wii U data appears only through February 2020. Viewing it requires linking the relevant Nintendo Network ID to the Nintendo Account.
What the app cannot do
Nintendo does not present Store as a control center for every console or account task. Its support page says the app cannot change Nintendo Account settings, manage virtual game cards, manage save data, or manage console memory. Parental-control management belongs to other Nintendo services, not this app.

It also does not consolidate Nintendo’s shopping, social, and news apps into one service, nor does it replace the console eShop. If a purchase opens a browser or another My Nintendo Store view, that handoff is consistent with Nintendo’s stated purchase flow rather than evidence by itself of a malfunction.
Requirements and common snags
The app is free on Apple’s App Store and Google Play. Google Play lists Android 10.0 or later, a compatible device, and an internet connection; data charges may apply, some content requires users to be at least 17, and some features require a Nintendo Account. Check the Apple listing for iOS device requirements rather than assuming they match Android.

- A product appears but cannot be purchased: Check the regional store, the product’s stock and availability, and the country or region associated with the account. Physical-item purchases in the Americas are limited to the U.S. and Canada.
- A digital game does not download: Confirm the account has accessed the console eShop at least once, the intended console was selected at checkout, the console is online and has enough storage, and the purchase appears in account history.
- Play activity looks incomplete: Switch 2/Switch activity and older-system records have different coverage; 3DS and Wii U records stop at February 2020 and may require a linked Nintendo Network ID.
- Notifications do not arrive: Check both the app’s notification choices and the phone’s notification permissions. Also confirm you are signed into the expected account and that the relevant item is wish-listed. Phone battery and background-app restrictions can also affect alerts.
Who should install Nintendo Store?
It is most useful for Nintendo fans who want one phone-based place to browse products, follow sales or releases, maintain a wish list, check account-linked activity, or shop for eligible physical merchandise. It may add little for someone who buys digital games only from the console eShop, does not use alerts or wish lists, or wants all Nintendo services in one app. Anyone who dislikes being handed off to a web-store checkout may also prefer shopping directly through the console eShop or My Nintendo Store on the web.
