The key difference is regional access, not the included hardware. In Japan, Nintendo lists the Japanese-Language System (Japan Only) at ¥59,980 and the Multi-Language System at ¥69,980. The Japanese-only model is limited to Japanese system language, Japan-region Nintendo Accounts, and Japan-region eShop purchases. The Multi-Language System supports 16 system languages and accounts from all regions. Nintendo says both models have the same package contents.

Can I use the Japanese Switch 2 in English?
Not as a system language: the Japanese-Language System has Japanese as its only system-language option. You can’t switch the console menus to English. The Multi-Language System can be set to English or another supported language.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Game language is a separate matter. Nintendo Support says a game uses the console’s selected language when that title supports it. Some games provide their own language controls, but a game-level option does not change the Japanese-only console’s system language. Can I link a non-Japanese Nintendo Account to the Japanese-only model?
No. Nintendo says the Japanese-Language System can link only an account whose country or region is set to Japan. The Multi-Language System accepts Nintendo Accounts from all country and region settings. If your existing account is set to another country, the Japanese-only console is not the compatible choice under Nintendo’s stated account rules. Nintendo Japan model comparison

Can I use a Japanese Switch 2 outside Japan?
Nintendo describes the Japanese-Language System as “designed for use in Japan only.” Its Japan comparison page says overseas packaged software is not guaranteed to work and that failures, damage, or other losses arising from overseas use are outside warranty and repair coverage. That is Nintendo’s stated support position; it is not a promise that an imported system will work or receive service in another country. Nintendo Japan model comparison
The Multi-Language System accepts accounts from all regions, but that fact alone does not establish overseas warranty coverage or guarantee compatibility for every imported game. Verify the relevant regional terms before buying or relying on service outside Japan.

- Choose the Multi-Language System if you need English or another supported system language, or need to link a Nintendo Account set outside Japan. It costs ¥10,000 more at the listed Japan MSRPs and is sold through Nintendo Store in Japan.
- Don’t choose based on assumed power or included accessories. Nintendo lists the same package contents for both. Confirm the exact model, account-region compatibility, seller, and warranty terms for any import listing.
