The eBay listings reported just before the Nintendo Switch 2’s June 5, 2025 launch are a historical snapshot, not evidence of today’s stock or prices. At the time, Tech Times reported more than 100 listings, many priced at $650–$750. If you are weighing a resale listing now, compare its full cost and specific delivery promise with a current established-retailer offer—and do not treat a preorder receipt as proof that the seller can deliver.
What the launch-window eBay surge did—and did not—show
In the days before Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, Tech Times reported more than 100 eBay listings, with many priced between $650 and $750. Those figures describe listings observed at that time; they are not a current count, a current price range, or an indication that the console is sold out today. Tech Times’ original report recounts sellers claiming to have preorder confirmations. A claimed confirmation may be worth examining, but it does not establish that a particular seller has the console or will fulfill your order.

Nintendo later reported that global Switch 2 sell-through exceeded 6 million units in the first seven weeks after launch. A chart in a subsequent investor report shows approximately 15 million cumulative units by the fourth week of December 2025. These historical sales figures show the scale of the launch; neither is a forecast of current inventory or an assurance that a restock is imminent. Nintendo’s August 2025 investor materials and its February 2026 investor materials provide the figures.
What eBay requires from a presale listing
As of October 8, 2026, eBay’s presale policy requires a listing to identify itself as “presale” in both the title and description, state when the item will be available to ship, and guarantee shipment within 40 business days of purchase. The handling time must account for the seller obtaining the item as well as getting it to the carrier. eBay says violations may result in actions including removal, warnings, restrictions, or account suspension. Read the current eBay presale listings policy before buying, since marketplace rules can change.

These rules set requirements for the listing; they do not prove that an individual seller will meet them, establish that a particular listing violates policy, or predict how eBay will handle a dispute. A receipt or screenshot can support a seller’s claim, but it does not replace a clear, policy-compliant listing and a specific delivery commitment.
How to compare a resale listing with a retailer offer
Do not judge a listing by its headline price alone. Compare the actual item and delivery terms with a live offer from an established retailer:

- Total cost: Include shipping, taxes where shown, and the value and contents of any bundle. Compare like with like rather than treating a console-plus-accessories bundle as the same product as a console alone.
- Possession versus presale: Check whether the seller says the console is physically in hand or is offering a presale claim. For a presale, check the required wording, availability-to-ship date, handling details, and 40-business-day shipment guarantee.
- Seller and transaction: Review the seller’s reputation and whether the transaction is domestic. Nintendo’s auction guidance recommends shopping within your country, checking an auction site’s reputation through consumer or business complaint resources, and considering whether the operator also runs a conventional retail business. - What you can document: Save the listing and its delivery terms, along with relevant seller messages and order records. Check what the listing actually promises so you can identify a concrete mismatch if the item does not arrive or differs from its description.
A high price or presale status alone does not establish that a listing is fraudulent. The practical question is whether its terms are clear, meet eBay’s policy, and justify the premium over a retailer option you can verify at the time you buy.
