It also adds a wider adjustable stand, enhanced onboard audio, 64 GB of internal storage instead of 32 GB, and a dock with built-in wired LAN. Both systems play in TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, support the Nintendo Switch game library, and have the same published battery-life estimate.

Is the OLED screen worth it?
The OLED display is the most noticeable difference when you play without a TV. It is both larger—7.0 inches versus 6.2—and uses OLED pixels that emit their own light rather than an LCD backlight. Nintendo says this allows more vivid colors, deeper blacks, and crisper contrast. Whether that improvement is worth the price difference depends on how often you play handheld and on your preference for the screen.
When the system is connected to a TV, the console’s built-in screen is not the display you’re watching. If you mainly play docked, the OLED screen matters less to your usual play session; the built-in LAN port, extra internal storage, and the features you might use away from the TV are more relevant to the choice.

Does the OLED Switch run different games?
No. Nintendo says the OLED model plays the Nintendo Switch game library, and both systems offer TV, tabletop, and handheld play. They are not separate software generations. Nintendo does note that the larger console may not fit cleanly in some Labo Toy-Con designs and that the larger screen can make some game experiences differ. See Nintendo’s OLED Model overview and FAQ for its compatibility notes.
How much storage does Switch OLED have, and can it be expanded?
The OLED model includes 64 GB of internal storage; the standard Switch includes 32 GB. Some space on either system is reserved for system use, so the full stated capacity is not available for games and other user data. Both support microSDXC cards up to 2 TB, according to Nintendo’s storage and microSD card guidance. Expansion is optional, but can provide more room for downloaded games.

Does Switch OLED have better battery life?
Nintendo publishes the same approximate battery-life range for both models: 4.5–9 hours. Actual play time depends on the game. As one example, Nintendo estimates approximately 5.5 hours for the OLED model playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These are manufacturer estimates, not a promise of runtime for every game or an independent test.
What does the OLED dock add?
The OLED model’s bundled dock has a built-in wired LAN port, so you can connect an Ethernet cable directly. The standard Switch dock has no built-in LAN port; Nintendo’s wired internet connection instructions specify using a USB LAN adapter and LAN cable for a wired connection.

- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Nintendo identifies the OLED bundle dock as model HEG-007 and the standard dock as HAC-007. Both systems can use the LAN-port dock when running system version 11.0.0 or later. Dock appearance aside, the OLED model’s bundled dock does not change the shared TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes.

Nintendo says compatible Switch controllers work with the OLED model, but check accessories whose fit depends on the console’s dimensions. Nintendo specifically warns that some Labo Toy-Con may not fit properly and that standard Switch screen protectors may not fit the OLED screen.
The OLED screen has a factory anti-scattering adhesive film. Nintendo says not to peel it off; if you add a screen protector, install it over the film. Choose one specifically intended for Switch OLED rather than assuming a standard Switch protector will fit.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Glossy white dock with Hylian illustrations
- Hardware with designs from the game
- 7-inch OLED screen. Enjoy vivid colors and crisp contrast with a screen that makes colors pop
- Freely angle the system’s wide, adjustable stand for comfortable viewing in Tabletop mode
- Use the dock’s LAN port when playing in TV mode for a wired internet connection (LAN cable sold separately)
Which Switch should you choose?
- Choose the OLED model if you expect to play often in handheld or tabletop mode and value its larger OLED screen, more flexible stand, and enhanced onboard audio. It also comes with twice the stated internal storage and a dock with built-in LAN.
- Choose the standard Switch if it better suits your budget and you do not place as much value on those OLED-specific features. Its published battery estimate and play modes match the OLED model.
- If you mostly play on a TV, weigh the current price in your market against the dock’s built-in LAN, extra storage, and whether you will use the OLED features when away from the TV. Prices and availability vary by region and retailer.
