Nintendo Today! is Nintendo’s free mobile app for daily Nintendo news, videos, comics, event dates and character-themed calendar widgets. Nintendo released it for iOS and Android on March 27, 2025. It requires a Nintendo Account and an internet connection, but Nintendo’s published requirements do not list a Switch console as a prerequisite. It is not the Nintendo Switch App: Today! is for content and calendars, while the Switch App focuses on console-connected social and game services.
What Nintendo Today! does
Nintendo describes Today! as a daily information hub for its games and related events. Its feed can include Nintendo Switch 2 news, game information, videos, comics and other Nintendo content. It is a first-party source for Nintendo announcements and promotional material, not an independent news outlet or a replacement for Nintendo’s website, social channels or Nintendo Direct presentations.
News, videos and comics
The app brings Nintendo content together in a mobile feed. The specific material available can change; Nintendo’s launch announcement identifies daily updates and examples of content, rather than promising that every announcement or item will appear exclusively in the app.
Calendar and event information
Today! can show Nintendo-related dates, including game-release dates, in-game events and upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations. Its animated calendar features selected Nintendo characters or game series. The app also offers calendar integration: Apple’s listing refers to linking with the device’s Calendar app, while Google Play refers to Google Calendar. That integration is a feature, not a requirement for reading the feed, and should not be confused with Nintendo managing a user’s private schedule.

Release date and availability
Nintendo announced and released the app for iOS and Android on March 27, 2025. The U.S. Apple App Store and Google Play currently list it, and Nintendo’s official site also points to the app. Store availability can vary by country and account region, so a listing in one market does not establish worldwide availability. The U.S. App Store listing identifies multiple supported languages, including English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese; language options may vary by region.

Nintendo Today! versus the Nintendo Switch App
The names are similar, but the apps serve different purposes. Nintendo Today! is a content feed and calendar; the Nintendo Switch App is for features connected to Nintendo Switch systems.

A Nintendo Account and internet access are required. Calendar access is relevant if you want to use calendar integration; notifications are an operating-system permission that you can review separately. You can decline optional permissions and decide whether the app’s calendar and alert features are worth enabling.

Nintendo’s U.S. app privacy policy says Nintendo services may process information users provide and technical information such as operating system, device settings, performance data, identifiers and IP address. The exact information can depend on the service, region, age and features used.
The U.S. App Store privacy label says Nintendo may associate browsing history, usage data, product interaction, location and identifiers with a user for purposes that include advertising or marketing, analytics and personalization. Google Play’s developer-provided data-safety panel says no data is shared with third parties, while also listing possible collection of location, personal information and other data types; it says data is encrypted in transit and deletion requests are available. These are platform disclosures supplied by the developer, not independent audits, and practices can vary by region and use. Review the current disclosures and your device permissions if these details affect your decision.
Who is the app for?
It may suit Nintendo fans who want a central feed
Today! is most useful if you follow several Nintendo franchises, want release and event dates alongside official content, or enjoy Nintendo artwork on a home-screen calendar. Its value is convenience: instead of checking multiple Nintendo channels, you can open one first-party app.
It may be redundant for some readers
If you already follow Nintendo’s website, social accounts or email updates closely, much of the feed may overlap with information you see elsewhere. Readers looking for a comprehensive, chronological news source or independent scrutiny of Nintendo’s decisions should treat Today! as a company-run channel, not a substitute for reporting.

Quick Recap
If calendar or widget features are missing
- Check that your phone’s operating system and the app are up to date.
- For calendar integration, review the app’s calendar permission and the relevant account or device calendar settings.
- Add a home-screen widget through the device’s normal widget picker; installing the app does not necessarily add one automatically.
- Check the available calendar styles and series in the app, since not every series must offer every artwork or style.
- If a feature still does not appear, consult the app’s current store listing or Nintendo support for device-specific guidance.
