Nintendo’s first alternate Joy-Con 2 color set pairs Light Purple with Light Green. Announced on January 8, 2026, the controllers went on sale February 12. They are a color variant, not a new Switch 2 model—and the controllers are mostly black on the outside, with the pastel shades concentrated on inward-facing panels and accents.
What Nintendo announced
Nintendo introduced the Joy-Con 2 (L)/(R) Light Purple / Light Green pair through the Nintendo Today app, according to contemporary coverage. It was the first alternate Joy-Con 2 color set after the system launched. The official Nintendo product listing identifies the colors and shows their placement.
The colors are split across the pair: one controller is Light Purple and the other Light Green. This is a separately sold controller set, not a pastel Switch 2 console; the console’s body and existing accents are unchanged.
What the colors look like in use
These are not fully pastel shells. The controllers retain predominantly black outer bodies, while Light Purple and Light Green appear mainly on inward-facing panels and selected sections. Detached, the color accents are easier to see; attached in handheld mode, much of the visible exterior remains black. Buyers expecting the all-over color treatment of some original Switch Joy-Con sets should take that distinction into account.

Release date and price
The set was announced January 8, 2026, and released February 12, 2026. At announcement, Nintendo Life reported U.S. pricing of $99.99 and U.K. pricing of £74.99. Nintendo’s catalog now shows a $124.99 regular-price signal for the Light Purple/Light Green pair in related products on its Joy-Con 2 catalog page. These figures reflect different listings and points in time, not a guaranteed price in every region or at every retailer; check the local store for current price and stock.

- Two Joy-Con 2 wrist straps
The set does not include a console, charging grip, or charging dock. Nintendo lists the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip separately in its product catalog.

Compatibility: Switch 2 only
The Light Purple/Light Green controllers are Joy-Con 2, so they are designed for Nintendo Switch 2. Their magnetic attachment and wireless connection do not make them usable with the original Switch, Switch OLED Model, or Switch Lite. That compatibility is asymmetric: original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but Joy-Con 2 cannot connect wirelessly with the original Switch. Original Joy-Con also lack Joy-Con 2-specific hardware features.

Features are the standard Joy-Con 2 set
The pastel pair is not a performance revision. It retains the regular Joy-Con 2 feature set, including HD rumble, motion controls, mouse controls in compatible games, the C Button for GameChat access, and magnetic attachment to Switch 2. Nintendo’s Joy-Con 2 product information describes these features. A game must support the relevant controller function or multiplayer mode; online features such as GameChat can also have separate game, system, membership, account, or accessory requirements.

It makes sense if you want another Switch 2 pair
For households that play compatible local multiplayer games, the set adds two individual controllers without requiring players to keep detaching the console’s included pair. The game still needs to support the desired local multiplayer mode. It is also a straightforward choice for collectors or owners who prefer this softer color combination and want official Joy-Con 2 hardware.

It is mainly a cosmetic purchase for current owners
If your Switch 2 already has working Joy-Con 2 and you mostly play alone, this set does not add a new capability. Its appeal is the color treatment or having an extra pair available. The current Nintendo catalog price signal makes it worth checking the local price against how often you will use the additional controllers.

Consider another controller for other needs
The standard Light Blue/Light Red Joy-Con 2 pair offers the same core functionality in the launch colorway. Nintendo later released a Blue/Light Yellow pair on July 23, 2026, so Light Purple/Light Green is no longer the only alternate set; see Nintendo’s Blue/Light Yellow listing. Players who want a conventional single gamepad rather than two separate controllers may prefer the Switch 2 Pro Controller. If you plan to charge Joy-Con 2 away from the console, the Charging Grip is a separate accessory.

For an original Switch owner looking for replacement controllers, this set is the wrong fit: Joy-Con 2 do not work with that system.
