In Nioh 2, weapons are both combat tools and part of character progression: you equip melee and ranged weapons, learn weapon skills with skill points, and can use your character’s stats to help guide weapon choice. There is no single best weapon established here; choose by moveset, reach, skills, and how its scaling fits the stats you are already investing in.

How weapons fit into Nioh 2

Nioh 2 is an action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and Kou Shibusawa. Its official Complete Edition manual describes an equipment interface for melee and ranged weapons, and explains that available skill points can be spent to learn skills. Weapon skills therefore form part of progression alongside the weapons themselves.

The manual excerpt does not provide a complete weapon-category catalog. Rather than treat a partial list as exhaustive, use the in-game equipment and skill menus to see the options available in your copy of the game.

How to choose a weapon

There is no universally correct choice supported by the available sources. Compare weapons using a few practical questions:

  • Moveset and reach: Which attacks and distance feel comfortable to you?
  • Skills: Are there weapon skills you want to learn and use?
  • Stat compatibility: Does the weapon’s scaling align with the core stats you are already developing?
  • Handling: Which weapon feels dependable in your hands during play?

These are decision criteria, not a measured ranking. A weapon that fits your preferred approach and current character development may be more useful to you than one chosen solely for a stat association.

Weapon scaling and character stats

A community-maintained Nioh stat reference connects core stats with weapon scaling. Treat it as a guide to how stats may relate to weapon damage, not as official documentation or a complete build prescription. The reference notes that scaling can differ by weapon subtype, so avoid assuming every weapon in a broad category scales identically.

  • Discover a revamped combat system with new weapons and skills
  • Journey through the mysterious Dark Realm: the demonic home of the yokai
  • Play with friends in co op online multiplayer modes for up to three players

For a practical comparison, check the scaling shown for the specific weapon you are considering, then compare it with the stats you actually plan to raise. Scaling is one consideration among several; it does not by itself determine which moveset or weapon will suit you.

What the available sources establish

The official Complete Edition manual supports the basic equipment and skill-point explanation, while the community stats reference offers additional context on scaling. The sources used here do not establish a definitive best weapon, a complete weapon list, or category-by-category strengths. They also do not establish which categories depend on particular DLC or updates. Consult the in-game menus for the options present in your version and the exact weapon details.
