nmtinyxml.dll is not a Windows system file, DirectX component, or Visual C++ runtime. It is an application-local DLL associated with older 32-bit PC games, including DmC: Devil May Cry and ENSLAVED: Odyssey to the West Premium Edition.
The safest fix is to identify the game named in the error, check antivirus quarantine, then use the game launcher’s file-verification feature. Do not download an isolated copy of nmtinyxml.dll or place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
What nmtinyxml.dll is
Public game manifests place NMTinyxml.dll in the following location:
BinariesWin32NMTinyxml.dll
That makes it a 32-bit, game-local component rather than a shared Windows library. The strongest product identification is an older Ninja Theory and Unreal Engine-era game installation, but the exact developer, internal description, exports, and original build toolchain for the DLL itself are not established.

You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because nmtinyxml.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “nmtinyxml.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nmtinyxml.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- A launch failure with error

The last two messages need care. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency required by nmtinyxml.dll is missing, not necessarily that the named file itself is absent.
Step 1: Identify the game that needs the file
Read the application name in the error dialog. If the dialog does not identify it, use File Explorer:
- Open the folder where the game is installed.
- Look for the game’s main executable, usually an
.exefile with the game’s name. - Open its
Binariesfolder, thenWin32. - Search the game folder for
nmtinyxml.dll.
If you find the file in that game folder, leave it there. If it is missing, do not replace it with a file from another program.
This step matters because a 32-bit game can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs its own 32-bit application files. Windows being 64-bit does not make System32 the correct destination.

File verification is the most likely fix for a deleted, damaged, or incomplete game DLL.
For a Steam installation:
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Start the game again from Steam.
Steam compares the installed files with the expected game content and redownloads files it identifies as missing or damaged.
If the game uses another launcher, open that launcher’s settings or the game’s management menu and look for Verify, Repair, Scan and repair, or Validate files. Use the launcher associated with the legitimate installation.

If verification reports a problem
Restart the computer and run verification again. If the same files repeatedly fail verification:

- Remove unofficial mods or manual file replacements.
- Check that the installation drive has free space.
- Run the launcher as administrator by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator.
- Verify the files once more.
If verification still cannot restore the file, uninstall the game and reinstall it from its official store or legitimate installer. A clean reinstall is safer than copying a DLL from an unrelated source.
Step 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine a game file after an update, scan, or change to the installation.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving the game folder or
nmtinyxml.dll. - Expand the relevant entry and read the detection details.
Only restore or allow a file when you are confident that it came from the legitimate game installation. If Windows Security repeatedly removes the file, do not blindly create an exclusion. Verify the game again and contact the game publisher or your security vendor if you believe the detection is incorrect.
After a confirmed quarantine event, restore the file if appropriate, then verify the game files so the launcher can provide the correct copy.

Step 4: Separate this DLL from DirectX and Visual C++ errors
Do not reinstall runtimes merely because nmtinyxml.dll is missing. Reinstalling Visual C++ does not recreate this game DLL.
Check the exact filename in the error:
d3dx9_43.dll,xinput1_3.dll, or another D3DX or XInput file points toward an older DirectX dependency.msvcp*.dllorvcruntime*.dllpoints toward Microsoft Visual C++.nmtinyxml.dllalone points first toward the game installation.
For a DirectX-related message:
- Use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime installer.
- Install it normally.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the game again.
This legacy package supplies older components used by some games, including legacy D3DX, XAudio, and XInput files. It does not replace nmtinyxml.dll.

For a Visual C++ message:
- Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that matches the game’s architecture.
- For a 32-bit game, install the x86 package even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
- Restart Windows.
- Try the game again.
Several Visual C++ redistributables can correctly coexist. Do not remove older versions just to install a newer one.
If the game reports 0xc000007b, inspect the full message and event details before changing files. This code commonly indicates an architecture mismatch or another damaged dependency. Repair the game first, then address any separately named runtime.
Step 5: Repair Windows components only when broader problems exist
Because nmtinyxml.dll belongs to a game rather than Windows, System File Checker normally cannot restore it. DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself has damaged protected components or when several unrelated programs are failing.
First install pending Windows updates and restart. Then:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command will generally recreate a third-party game DLL.

Step 6: Check drivers only if the symptoms point there
A graphics driver problem can cause a game to crash or fail after launch, but it is not the usual cause of a missing nmtinyxml.dll message. Consider driver repair when the game reaches a black screen, crashes after opening, or reports a graphics-related error.
To update the graphics driver manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean reinstall, download the driver for your exact graphics hardware from the hardware manufacturer’s official support page. Do not uninstall a working driver without first knowing how you will reinstall it.

Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64
System32 and SysWOW64 are not general-purpose storage folders for application DLLs. Putting a game file there can create version conflicts and still will not place it beside the executable that requests it.

Do not use random DLL download websites
An isolated download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, a mismatched build, or a modified file. It may also hide the actual cause, such as an incomplete installation or missing dependency.
Use the game launcher’s verification process or reinstall from the official store or installer instead.
Do not use regsvr32 as a repair method
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that support self-registration through DllRegisterServer. A game dependency is not normally repaired by registering it.

may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found” or another registration error. That does not prove the file is corrupt. It only means registration is not the correct repair path.
Do not install x64 components for a 32-bit game only
A 32-bit game needs compatible x86 runtime components. Installing only an x64 Visual C++ package may leave the game unable to start.

If the error remains after verification
If the launcher reports success but the game still fails:
- Confirm which executable is actually being launched.
- Search the entire game directory for
nmtinyxml.dll. - Read the new error carefully for another missing DLL.
- Remove incompatible mods and unofficial patches.
- Try a clean reinstall on a healthy drive.
- Test the game from a new Windows user profile.
- Try a clean boot if another startup program may be interfering.
- Preserve the exact dialog text and crash logs before contacting the game publisher.
If the problem affects several applications, run a full Windows Security scan and check the installation drive for errors. Malware or disk failure can repeatedly damage restored game files.

Is nmtinyxml.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is found beside older games in their BinariesWin32 folders.
Can I download nmtinyxml.dll separately?

Will the file work on 64-bit Windows?
