No Man’s Sky Worlds Part II is not an upcoming update: Hello Games announced and released it on January 29, 2025, as update 5.5. Sean Murray’s announcement promised a larger, more varied universe, while the launch brought new planets, terrain, creatures, story content and the Titan Expedition.
When did No Man’s Sky Worlds Part II come out?
Hello Games announced Worlds Part II on January 29, 2025, and released it that same day as version 5.5. The announcement was therefore also a launch announcement, not a teaser for a future release. Hello Games’ announcement opened with Sean Murray’s statement: “Our next update is called Worlds Part II.”
The update was listed for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, as well as Xbox Game Pass, in the official release log. Check the relevant platform store for current compatibility and availability. Xbox Wire described it as a free update for existing Xbox and Game Pass players; it was not a separately sold expansion. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage provides that platform-specific detail.
What did Worlds Part II add?
The update’s central aim was to make exploration more varied by expanding the range of stars, planets and environments players could encounter. The official 5.5 update page describes new solar systems and planets, including water worlds and gas giants, along with additional terrain types, biomes and forms of life.

In a PlayStation Blog launch article, Hello Games founder Sean Murray said: “With Worlds Part II, we added billions of new star systems and trillions of new planets to the universe.” Those numbers are the developer’s description of the game’s expanded universe, not an independently audited count.
What story content and rewards were included?
Hello Games also described a large quest connecting story strands developed over several years. Worlds Part II’s launch content included the Titan Expedition, which sends players to survey new worlds. Its rewards included the Wraith, a unique living ship, as well as other expedition rewards and features detailed in the update notes.

Is Worlds Part II still the latest No Man’s Sky update?
No. Worlds Part II launched as version 5.5, and Hello Games published later fixes in the 5.5 series. For example, the studio’s March 4, 2025 version 5.58 note said that patch was live on Steam and would come to other platforms as soon as possible; it was not the final 5.5-series release. The release log also lists updates released after Worlds Part II, so the 5.5 launch page is best read as a record of that update rather than a current snapshot of the game.
