You play Detective James Karra, investigating murders among the city’s elite with help from police liaison Sara Kai. Its central mystery unfolds in a society where consciousness can be stored or transferred between bodies—and where access to that technology depends on a subscription.
What is Nobody Wants to Die about?
James Karra takes an off-the-books case after a near-death experience and joins Sara Kai in pursuing a killer targeting New York’s elite. The city’s social order has been reshaped by technology that lets people preserve consciousness in memory banks or transfer it into another body. The official product descriptions make clear that access to this form of immortality is tied to a subscription, placing it within reach according to what a person can afford.
The premise gives the murder investigation a particular noir tension: death has not disappeared, but the wealthy have new ways to evade it. Karra and Kai must work out what happened at crime scenes and follow the evidence through a society built around that technology.
How does the investigation work?
As Karra, players examine crime scenes and use his time-manipulation augmentation and other advanced technology to reconstruct events leading up to the murders. These reconstructions help reveal clues that would otherwise be difficult to identify. The developer’s feature describes players controlling two investigators as they unravel the serial-killer mystery.

Official descriptions characterize the game as a narrative adventure and interactive detective story. They do not establish it as an open-world role-playing game or specify a particular branching structure, so it is best understood through its investigation and story rather than those labels.
How does the game look and feel?
The visual direction blends noir with futuristic New York. In a developer-authored Xbox Wire feature published July 22, 2024, Critical Hit Games co-founder and producer Artur Jaskólski described combining 1930s styling with visions of a future city. That contrast suits the setting: familiar noir atmosphere reframed by the technology and inequality of 2329.
