If Normal Golf Game crashes on your Steam Deck, work through these seven checks in order: update and restart the Deck, rule out third-party apps, verify the game files, and then try the more conditional Proton, graphics, or download-cache steps that match your symptoms. Steam lists the game as Deck Verified, but that is compatibility guidance—not a guarantee that an individual installation will never crash.
First, identify what is crashing
Notice whether only Normal Golf Game closes back to the Steam library, the game fails to launch, or the entire Deck freezes or restarts. Those are different symptoms and can point support toward different troubleshooting paths; the title alone is not enough to identify a cause.
The Steam listing for Normal Golf Game marks it Verified for Steam Deck. Valve describes Verified games as working well on Deck by default, but the rating does not rule out a problem with a particular game installation, system setup, or session. The listing also says that 1080p and low grass density help on slower computers. That is performance guidance, not a confirmed crash fix.
1. Update SteamOS and restart the Deck
Start with Steam’s basic system-stability steps. Check for an update, install it if available, and restart before testing the game again.

- Press the Steam button and open Settings > System > Software Updates.
- Install any available update.
- Open Steam > Power > Restart.
- After the Deck restarts, launch Normal Golf Game and see whether the same failure occurs.

2. Temporarily disable third-party Deck apps
Applications added through Desktop Mode can help identify whether something outside the game is contributing to instability. This is a diagnostic test, not evidence that a particular application is responsible.
- Exit third-party applications running on the Deck, or disable them temporarily if they have background components.
- Restart the Deck.
- Launch the game without reopening those applications and check whether it still crashes.
If the game works during this test, re-enable applications one at a time to see whether the problem returns. Steam also recommends disabling third-party applications when troubleshooting Deck instability in its official guide.

3. Verify Normal Golf Game’s files
Use Steam’s file check if the game crashes during launch, behaves unexpectedly, or may have an incomplete or damaged installation.
- Open Library and highlight Normal Golf Game.
- Open the game’s Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and let Steam finish the check.
Steam’s file-verification instructions note that some files may fail verification because they are local configuration files; that can be normal and does not necessarily mean the game is still broken.
4. Test a different Proton version if crashes continue
Because the game is already marked Verified, changing compatibility tools is best treated as a reversible diagnostic—not a known Normal Golf Game-specific fix. Steam suggests trying the latest compatibility-tool version when a Steam app has problems.

- Open the game’s Properties from your Steam Library.
- Choose Compatibility.
- Enable the option to force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then select the latest Proton version available to you.
- Launch the game and test the same situation that caused the crash.
- If the test makes no difference or makes things worse, return to the previous compatibility setting.
Steam’s general guidance for Deck compatibility and Proton is in its software and troubleshooting guide; it does not establish that Proton is the cause of this game’s crashes.
5. Reduce graphics load for performance-related trouble
If the game slows down, stutters, or becomes unstable under heavier graphics settings, lower the resolution or reduce graphics options and test again. The game’s Steam listing specifically identifies 1080p and low grass density as helpful for slower computers. Neither that note nor Steam’s general advice to reduce graphics settings establishes a guaranteed crash cure.

- Set grass density to low, following the game’s own performance note.
- If needed, lower other graphics options one at a time so you can tell which change affects performance.

6. Clear the download cache if the game will not start
This step is most relevant when Normal Golf Game will not download or launch. Steam’s cache guidance is not aimed at every crash that happens after a game is already running.
- Open Steam > Settings > Downloads.
- Select Clear Download Cache and confirm.
- Sign in to Steam again, then try launching the game.
Steam says clearing the download cache does not affect installed games, but you will need to sign in again. See the official clear-download-cache instructions.
7. Contact Steam Support if the crash persists
If none of these checks helps, use Steam Support’s Deck troubleshooting guidance to continue troubleshooting or escalate the issue. Steam Deck discussions may also show whether other players have reported a similar problem, but a matching report does not by itself confirm the cause.

When reporting the issue, include what happens: whether the game closes to the library, fails before reaching the menu, or causes the Deck itself to restart. Note whether the crash happens at a repeatable point and which troubleshooting steps you tried. That information can help support investigate without assuming a cause that has not been established.
Why these steps are ordered this way
The sequence begins with system updates and a restart, then checks for interference from third-party apps. File verification targets possible installation problems. Proton is a reversible compatibility test, graphics changes address performance load, and cache clearing is reserved for download or launch trouble. This is a practical order based on the scope of Steam’s guidance, not a measured ranking of success rates. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified criteria explain what the label means, but the rating alone cannot diagnose an individual crash.
