In a December 2023 experiment, Quasar Zone used two graphics cards to apply NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) in sequence. The test reported striking frame-rate gains in some games, but it was an unusual, complex setup—not a new feature built jointly into games, and not proof that the same results apply to other PCs.
How the two frame-generation technologies were combined
Quasar Zone’s test used a GeForce RTX 4090, a Radeon RX 6600 and an ASRock X670E Taichi motherboard. The game was assigned to the GeForce in Windows graphics settings, while the display was connected to the Radeon. DLSS 3 Frame Generation ran on the GeForce; Radeon software then applied AFMF to the output. In this motherboard configuration, Quasar Zone reported both cards operating over PCIe 4.0 x8. Quasar Zone’s test and HotHardware’s same-day summary describe the experiment.
In other words, neither card ran the other vendor’s feature. The rendered game output passed from a GeForce-driven rendering path to a Radeon-driven display path, stacking two frame-generation steps across two GPUs. That distinction matters: this was a driver-level workaround, not a single cross-vendor frame-generation mode supported inside a game.
What the benchmarks reported
The reported gains were specific to Quasar Zone’s 2023 test system and configurations. HotHardware summarized the figures; they are not a universal performance claim or independently reproduced result.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Game and comparison | Reported result | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077: combined setup versus native rendering without frame generation | Quasar Zone reported a 191.9% increase. | HotHardware said the resulting rate was roughly twice that of DLSS 3 Frame Generation alone. Other games generally showed more modest gains. |
| Starfield: DLSS upscaling with AFMF enabled | Quasar Zone reported an average increase from 72.8 fps to 200.2 fps. | Input latency was not measured for this configuration. The generated-frame count does not establish responsiveness. |
These numbers describe the reported output rate, not a complete measure of how a game feels. To assess a frame-generation result, consider the base rendered rate before generation, displayed rate, measured end-to-end latency, visual artifacts, frame pacing, stability and GPU utilization together.
Why the result is not a simple upgrade
It needs two GPUs and a particular display path
The test routes display output through the Radeon while the game runs on the GeForce. It therefore involves extra hardware and configuration rather than enabling a setting on a single card. HotHardware’s summary says the game needs to run in exclusive fullscreen.

Frame rate can fluctuate and images can show artifacts
AFMF may switch itself off during rapid camera motion to avoid severe artifacts. That behavior can cause the displayed frame rate to drop or fluctuate sharply. HotHardware reported the RX 6600 at around 90% utilization for AFMF at 4K output and said an RX 6500 XT was much less effective. Those observations are tied to the cards and test described; they are not a performance forecast for every Radeon.
Stability and responsiveness still matter
The reports warn of errors, crashes and other issues. Most importantly, the Starfield configuration’s latency was not measured, so its high average frame rate cannot by itself tell you whether controls remained responsive. Zak Killian of HotHardware put the practical verdict plainly: “In this case, though, we can’t say we recommend doing this, and neither does Quasar Zone.”

How to interpret the experiment today
The test is best understood as a demonstration of what was possible with that two-card arrangement in 2023, not as a guide to current frame-generation compatibility. AMD’s current GPUOpen documentation covers its documented FSR Frame Generation implementation, not a retrospective validation of Quasar Zone’s AFMF test. It says interpolation works best with at least 60 fps before generation, artifacts become more prominent below that, and sub-30 fps input should be avoided. Those are general recommendations for the documented FSR implementation, not measurements of the 2023 experiment.
Likewise, current NVIDIA technology should not be conflated with the feature used in the test. NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 overview distinguishes single-frame DLSS 3 generation from Multi Frame Generation features for RTX 50-series hardware. Neither later feature was part of Quasar Zone’s original setup.
