It brought launch-focused optimization for Dying Light 2 and Sifu, and added support for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPUs. It mattered at the time; in 2026, it is an archival release, not a sensible default for a current gaming PC.
What Driver 511.65 changed
511.65 was a WHQL-certified NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver released February 1, 2022. NVIDIA listed Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 support, with an archived installer of approximately 783.33 MB. Its headline changes fell into three categories: game optimization, support for two new laptop GPU models, and compatibility with features in some 2022 laptop designs. NVIDIA’s archived 511.65 listing includes the version, date, certification, operating systems and supported desktop GPU families.
- Games: launch-focused support for Dying Light 2 Stay Human and support for Sifu.
- New notebook hardware: GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU.
- Compatible 2022 designs: support associated with fourth-generation Max-Q technologies.
“Adds support” for Dying Light 2 means driver-level game optimization and a prepared profile; the driver does not include the game or guarantee a particular frame rate.
What it did for Dying Light 2
NVIDIA positioned 511.65 as a “day-zero” driver for Dying Light 2 Stay Human, which launched February 4, 2022. The PC game supports NVIDIA DLSS and DirectX 12 Ultimate ray-traced effects. NVIDIA’s stated aim was to prepare the driver for the launch and the game’s graphics features, not to promise a universal performance gain. NVIDIA’s launch announcement describes the game support and the release’s other changes.

Actual performance depends on the graphics card, laptop power limit and cooling, CPU, memory, resolution, graphics settings, DLSS mode and game updates. DLSS requires supported GeForce RTX hardware; installing 511.65 does not give a GTX card DLSS capability. Ray tracing likewise depends on compatible hardware and the settings available in the game.
Why the laptop GPU support was notable
The newly supported products were specifically the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU—not the similarly named desktop cards. NVIDIA’s January 2022 announcement positioned the 3080 Ti Laptop GPU as its first laptop “80 Ti” model, with 16GB of GDDR6, and the 3070 Ti Laptop GPU as a high-end 1440p option with 8GB of GDDR6. These are launch-era vendor specifications and positioning, not independent performance comparisons. NVIDIA’s laptop announcement also reported availability from February 1, 2022, and launch starting prices of $2,499 for RTX 3080 Ti laptops and $1,499 for RTX 3070 Ti laptops. Those were January 2022 launch prices, not current prices.

A laptop GPU’s name alone does not tell you how fast a particular notebook will be. Power limits, cooling, CPU, memory, display resolution and MUX or Optimus configuration can all affect results. For example, ASUS lists 150W implementations of both GPUs in configurations of the 2022 ROG Strix SCAR 17; that is an example of one model family, not a specification for every laptop carrying either GPU. ASUS’s specifications for that model family show the laptop-specific configurations.
Fourth-generation Max-Q was a laptop-design feature

Installing 511.65 does not add these capabilities to every existing notebook. They depended on compatible 2022 laptop designs and their CPU, firmware, power system and manufacturer implementation.
Other supported hardware and Sifu
The release was not limited to laptop owners. NVIDIA’s archived desktop listing covers GeForce RTX 30-, RTX 20- and GTX 16-series cards, as well as GTX 10-series, GTX 900-series, selected GTX 700-series products and TITAN models. Its separate notebook driver listing includes a range of mobile GeForce families and warns that notebook manufacturers may provide drivers certified for specific models.

Sifu was another title NVIDIA listed as supported by 511.65. The company’s launch article said it was scheduled to arrive February 8, 2022, through the Epic Games Store. It was a secondary game addition to a release primarily promoted around Dying Light 2 and the new laptop GPUs.

- Open GeForce Experience and select the Drivers tab.
- Check for the available Game Ready Driver, then select Download.
- Choose the installation option offered by the application and restart if prompted.
- Launch Dying Light 2 Stay Human and check whether the DLSS and ray-tracing options you want are available for your hardware.
For a laptop, check the manufacturer’s support page before installing a generic NVIDIA package. OEM-certified drivers can account for model-specific display switching, control software, fan and power modes, external-display routing, firmware, sleep, brightness and battery behavior. NVIDIA’s notebook driver page advises users to check with their laptop maker for recommended software updates.
After installation, you can check the driver version in NVIDIA Control Panel under Help → System Information, or in Windows Device Manager under Display adapters → your GPU → Driver. Labels can differ between software versions.
Should you install 511.65 now?
For ordinary use in 2026, no: use a current driver from NVIDIA or, for a laptop, the manufacturer’s recommended update channel. An old Game Ready release is not a way to improve current games, and a newer GPU may not be supported by the 511.xx branch.
There are narrower historical reasons to seek out 511.65: reproducing launch-era Dying Light 2 behavior, documenting an old benchmark environment, testing early RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3070 Ti laptop systems, or investigating a legacy setup where a later driver causes a regression. In that case, match the driver to the specific hardware and operating system and treat the archived installer as part of a controlled test environment, not as a general recommendation.

If a laptop misbehaves after an old driver install
- Restart the system and check whether the issue persists.
- Visit the laptop maker’s support page and reinstall its certified graphics package if appropriate.
- If needed, use Windows recovery or a carefully performed clean reinstall of a suitable driver.
- Avoid mixing unofficial modified packages with the manufacturer’s control software.
If performance or graphics options are not as expected
- No clear performance increase: Game Ready status means launch preparation, not a promised FPS uplift. CPU limits, laptop wattage, thermal throttling, ray tracing, VRAM, background tasks and game patches can affect results.
- DLSS is missing: check that the GPU is RTX-capable, the game is using the NVIDIA GPU, and the game version, graphics API and selected settings expose the option.
- A laptop is slower than expected: compare its GPU power limit, cooling, CPU, memory, display resolution and graphics routing—not just the GPU name.
