NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 566.45 was a real, optional driver released in December 2024. It targeted intermittent micro-stuttering reported by some players of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and stability in Ubisoft games using the Snowdrop engine. It was a narrow follow-up to Game Ready Driver 566.36—not a general performance upgrade. In 2026, most players should use a current compatible NVIDIA driver; consider 566.45 only for a specific historical troubleshooting or rollback test.
What was GeForce 566.45?
Version 566.45 was an NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Display Driver based on the 566.36 Game Ready Driver. NVIDIA used the optional hotfix channel to deliver a small number of targeted changes ahead of a broader driver release. It was not a new GPU, Studio Driver, separate GeForce Experience edition, or full new Game Ready release.
The practical distinction matters: 566.36 provided the original Game Ready support for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle; 566.45 followed with fixes for particular issues. NVIDIA’s announcement of the game’s driver support is here.
The hotfix appeared around December 23–24, 2024. The available contemporaneous record supports that release window; an exact NVIDIA publication timestamp is not clear. Its intended audience was GeForce users on Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit, but check the original package’s compatibility details for the specific GPU and system before attempting a legacy installation.

What did 566.45 address?

The Snowdrop note referred to Ubisoft games built on that engine generally; it did not name a particular title. The release note therefore should not be read as a promise to fix every crash in a specific Snowdrop game.
Nor did NVIDIA promise a universal stutter fix or an FPS boost. The wording “some users may experience” limits the Indiana Jones fix to a subset of systems. Autosave or checkpoint hitching, shader-compilation pauses, frame-pacing problems, and stutter caused by overlays or unstable clocks are not established as problems this hotfix solves. Players have discussed autosave hitching separately, but that is community experience rather than an NVIDIA-confirmed release-note fix (Steam discussion).

Hotfix versus WHQL: what the label means
NVIDIA describes hotfix drivers as optional, beta-style packages released after an abbreviated quality-assurance process to get specific fixes out more quickly. That does not mean every hotfix is unsafe; it does mean it is not the default choice for a stable system. NVIDIA’s hotfix guidance recommends waiting for the next WHQL driver as the safer route for most users. Later fixes may be incorporated into a broader driver release.
Hotfixes have historically been offered through NVIDIA Customer Care rather than the normal driver-update channel, so do not expect 566.45 to appear like a routine update in the NVIDIA App. For a current driver, use NVIDIA’s official driver download page. For the historical 566.45 record, consult NVIDIA support; the contemporaneous release record is also available at Wagnardsoft. Prefer NVIDIA’s own download infrastructure over third-party mirrors.

Should you install 566.45 now?
As of September 2026, 566.45 is an obsolete driver branch, superseded by much newer releases. It is generally not the right choice simply because a game stutters or because its version number is higher than 566.36. A newer number does not make an optional, narrowly tested hotfix preferable to a current WHQL driver.

How to test a legacy installation safely
Treat installing 566.45 as a diagnostic or rollback exercise—not routine maintenance.

- Record your current driver version. Check the NVIDIA App’s Drivers tab or NVIDIA Control Panel system information.
- Prepare to restore your working setup. Create a Windows restore point or make sure you can reinstall the current official driver. Close games and GPU-intensive apps.
- Reduce test variables. Temporarily close NVIDIA, Steam, and Ubisoft Connect overlays, Discord, recording tools, and GPU-monitoring utilities. Keep the game, save, graphics settings, and frame cap consistent for before-and-after tests.
- Get the installer from an official NVIDIA source. Confirm the package is for your Windows version and GPU. Do not assume an old package supports every GeForce card or modern Windows build.
- Run the NVIDIA installer. Use its normal GeForce graphics-driver installation path. If troubleshooting a suspected corrupted install, choose Custom/Advanced and the clean-install option if offered; a clean install is not required every time.
- Restart Windows and verify the version. Confirm the installed driver reports 566.45, then repeat the same test conditions. A single play session may not isolate the cause, so compare the actual symptom rather than assuming the driver fixed it.
Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is not a mandatory step for an ordinary install. Reserve Safe Mode cleanup tools for difficult rollback or reinstall failures, since they add complexity. NVIDIA notes that installation problems can involve background applications or Windows Update activity; if setup fails, close such programs and retry before escalating (NVIDIA driver-installation help).

If the stutter or instability remains
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Intermittent stutter during ordinary movement: this most closely resembles the issue listed for 566.45, but the fix is not guaranteed. Compare with a current official driver and, if you have a valid reason, the historical hotfix.
- Hitching at an autosave or checkpoint: do not assume a graphics-driver change will solve it. Community reports have treated this as distinct from the hotfix’s stated micro-stutter issue.
- Stutter only with Frame Generation: test with it off, then compare frame pacing and input response. This is a diagnostic comparison, not confirmation that 566.45 addresses Frame Generation.
- Stutter after changing resolution or DLSS settings: allow shaders to compile and retest before changing drivers again.
- Stutter only while recording or using overlays: disable those features one at a time to identify a conflict.
Ubisoft Snowdrop games
First verify the game files, remove mods or injectors, disable overlays, update the game and Ubisoft Connect, and return GPU and VRAM clocks to stock. If a corrupted shader cache is suspected, rebuild or clear it using the game or system’s supported method. These checks can help distinguish a driver regression from a game, software, or tuning problem. Use a current driver by default; consider 566.45 only when the timing and reproducibility make a 566.36-era driver issue plausible.

If the installer fails, reboot and retry with overlays and monitoring tools closed. Temporarily disabling third-party antivirus may help isolate interference. If a normal reinstall still fails, check the installer log and Windows Event Viewer; use Safe Mode cleanup only as a later troubleshooting step. Laptop owners should also check the computer maker’s driver package before forcing a generic NVIDIA installer.
