GeForce Game Ready Driver 580.88 was released on July 31, 2025—not in 2026. NVIDIA said it optimizes Mafia: The Old Country and supports the DLSS 4 feature update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It is a recommended game-ready update, not a stated requirement to launch either game, and installing it does not make every DLSS 4 feature available on every GeForce GPU.
As of August 2026, 580.88 is a historical release, not a current-driver recommendation. If you are updating now, use NVIDIA’s live driver selector to find the appropriate current package.
What NVIDIA released
NVIDIA’s GeForce Game Ready Driver 580.88 is WHQL-certified. The U.S. driver page lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11, and gives the package size as 890.81 MB. NVIDIA distributed it through the NVIDIA App and its official 580.88 download page.

NVIDIA called the release the “best gaming experience” for new games supporting DLSS 4 and named both Mafia: The Old Country and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. That is NVIDIA’s positioning, not a published benchmark or guarantee of higher frame rates on every PC. The key distinction is that driver optimization, a game’s own feature update, and a GPU’s ability to run a particular feature are separate things.

What it means for each game
Mafia: The Old Country
NVIDIA described 580.88 as Game Ready for Mafia: The Old Country. Its announcement lists the game’s NVIDIA feature set as DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex. The driver is the game-specific optimization and compatibility update; the announcement does not say the driver itself created every feature in the game.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
NVIDIA said the game originally supported DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA. A separate game update added DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex; driver 580.88 arrived alongside support for that update. Updating the driver alone does not install the game patch, so make sure the game is up to date as well.

In short, “support” here does not mean the same thing for both games: NVIDIA highlighted 580.88 as a Game Ready optimization for Mafia and tied Expedition 33’s additional features to a game update supported by the driver.

Which GPUs get which features?
A GPU appearing on a driver’s supported-products list means the driver may be installable on that product; it does not mean every advertised rendering feature is available. NVIDIA’s release announcement distinguishes features by GPU generation:

Check the individual game’s graphics menu and your GPU’s capabilities rather than assuming a driver update guarantees a setting will appear. For the driver’s compatible product list and release details, see NVIDIA’s 580.88 page; for NVIDIA’s game-by-game feature notes, see its 580.88 announcement.
Was 580.88 required to play?
The cited NVIDIA material does not establish 580.88 as a minimum requirement to launch either game. Treat it as NVIDIA’s recommended Game Ready driver for its launch-period optimization and the Expedition 33 feature update—not as proof that an older driver cannot run the games.

- Playing either game around the 2025 release or update? Installing the corresponding Game Ready driver was a sensible way to get NVIDIA’s recommended driver support.
- Already stable and not affected by a listed issue? A driver update is not automatically necessary just because it exists.
- Updating in 2026? Use NVIDIA’s current driver selector rather than installing 580.88 as if it were new.
- Using a gaming laptop? Check the laptop maker’s certified driver guidance first. NVIDIA notes that an OEM may recommend a package tailored to that notebook.
- Expecting a major FPS increase? NVIDIA’s announcement does not provide performance figures, so no specific gain should be assumed.
Other fixes in the release
The 580.88 release notes also list fixes beyond the two featured games. Among them are reduced performance after R575 drivers in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered; ray-tracing artifacts in World of Warcraft and crashes in Control; possible V-Sync micro-stutter in Cyberpunk 2077; and artifacts in StarCraft Remastered, JX Online 3, Battlefield 2042, and ABZU. NVIDIA also lists a startup-crash fix for some 32-bit games using the DXVK translation layer, along with general fixes involving Blender, Cloudflare WARP, GPU scaling, Windows Photos, Smooth Motion, hybrid graphics, and displays. Consult the full NVIDIA release notes to see whether a specific issue you have is addressed.

For the historical 580.88 package, NVIDIA directed users to the NVIDIA App or its driver page. In the app, open Drivers, check for the package, and select it only if you specifically need that older release. Choose a clean-install option if you are troubleshooting a driver problem, and restart if prompted. If you are acting now, locate the right current release through NVIDIA’s driver selector instead.

After installation, verify the driver version in the NVIDIA App or NVIDIA Control Panel, update the game separately through its launcher, and inspect the game’s graphics settings. A driver installation alone does not prove that Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, Reflex, DLAA, or Super Resolution is active.
If a setting is missing or performance worsens
Multi Frame Generation does not appear
Check that the GPU is an RTX 50-series model, the game is fully updated, and the feature is enabled in the game’s settings. Also confirm the installed driver version and check for any game-specific rendering-mode restrictions. On a laptop, hybrid graphics or an OEM driver can affect the available options. The 580.88 driver does not make Multi Frame Generation available on older GeForce generations.
The game runs worse after the update
- Restart the PC and confirm both the driver and game versions.
- Test without Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation, and remove unusual NVIDIA Control Panel overrides.
- Allow the shader cache to rebuild; performance can vary while a game recompiles shaders.
- If the problem persists, try a clean driver installation or return to the previous known-good driver. A rollback is not guaranteed to fix every cause.
When comparing performance, use the same save or scene, resolution, quality settings, and frame-generation configuration. Game Ready status means NVIDIA has prepared driver-level support; it cannot compensate for a CPU bottleneck, insufficient VRAM, thermal limits, a game bug, or settings that exceed the system’s capabilities.
