NVIDIA’s CES 2026 gaming announcements covered two different upgrades: DLSS 4.5 improves RTX image reconstruction and frame generation, while GeForce NOW expands cloud gaming to Linux PCs, compatible Amazon Fire TV devices and flight-control hardware. They are not the same kind of upgrade—and neither makes every feature available on every GPU, device or membership tier.
DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution became available through the NVIDIA app in January 2026. Dynamic Multi Frame Generation followed on March 31 as an opt-in NVIDIA app beta. GeForce NOW’s Linux app is in beta, and its initial Fire TV implementation supports up to 1080p at 60 fps in SDR.
What NVIDIA announced at CES 2026
The announcements fall into two groups:
- DLSS 4.5: new rendering and frame-generation features for supported GeForce RTX games and GPUs.
- GeForce NOW: more ways to access NVIDIA’s remote gaming service, including Linux, Fire TV and HOTAS flight controls.
One important correction: RTX 5080-class GeForce NOW servers were announced at Gamescom in August 2025, not first unveiled at CES. CES 2026 primarily expanded the devices and peripherals that could access that existing cloud hardware.
DLSS 4.5 explained
DLSS Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution rendered input. DLSS 4.5 introduces a second-generation Transformer model intended to improve temporal stability, lighting detail, fine edges, motion clarity and image reconstruction. NVIDIA describes the feature in its CES announcement and technical explanation.

- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
Frame Generation is different: it creates additional frames between traditionally rendered frames. Multi Frame Generation creates multiple generated frames for each traditionally rendered frame. DLSS 4.5 adds a new 6X Multi Frame Generation mode and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, which adjusts generated-frame behavior according to game and performance conditions.
“6X” does not mean six times the native rendering performance. It describes a frame-generation mode, and generated frames do not replace the responsiveness of a high underlying render rate. Artifacts, latency and image quality remain game- and configuration-dependent.
Hardware and integration limits
DLSS 4.5 is an evolution of the DLSS stack, not a guarantee that every RTX card receives every new feature. NVIDIA says DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution is available to GeForce RTX owners through the NVIDIA app. The newer Multi Frame Generation features are associated primarily with RTX 50-series hardware, supported games and the necessary software path.
The NVIDIA app can provide Super Resolution overrides for more than 400 supported games and applications, but an override is not the same as full developer integration. A game may accept the Super Resolution upgrade without supporting every DLSS 4.5 frame-generation feature.
GeForce NOW’s CES expansion
Native Linux support
GeForce NOW’s native Linux app entered beta on January 29, 2026. NVIDIA lists Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or later, a dual-core x86/x64 processor running at 2.0 GHz or faster, 4GB of RAM and a modern GPU with H.264 or H.265 Vulkan video-codec capability.
Where applicable, NVIDIA lists NVIDIA driver version 580.126.07 or later. It recommends Xorg for NVIDIA GPUs and Wayland for AMD and Intel GPUs, and recommends reinstalling the GeForce NOW app after installing a new host driver. The app remains beta software, so Linux compatibility is a meaningful improvement but not the same as a mature, universal desktop client.
Amazon Fire TV app
The Fire TV app launched in February 2026 for selected devices:

- Fire TV Stick 4K Max, first generation, with Fire OS 7.7.1.1 or later
- Fire TV Stick 4K, second generation, with Fire OS 8.1.6.0 or later
At launch, NVIDIA listed streaming up to 1080p at 60 fps, SDR, H.264 encoding and stereo audio. That means the Fire TV app does not automatically deliver the 4K, 5K, HDR or high-refresh capabilities available on compatible PC endpoints. A supported controller is generally required for gameplay; keyboard and mouse support is limited and is not equivalent to a desktop setup.
HOTAS and flight-control support
NVIDIA also announced support for flight controls in titles including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Elite Dangerous and War Thunder. Compatibility can still depend on the particular HOTAS model, operating system, connection method and game. This is especially important for Fire TV users, where USB, Bluetooth and input support may differ from a PC.

Gaijin single sign-on and games
Gaijin.net single sign-on simplifies access to supported Gaijin titles through GeForce NOW. NVIDIA also associated its CES announcements with games including 007 First Light, Phantom Blade Zero, PRAGMATA, Resident Evil Requiem, Active Matter, Crimson Desert, Screamer and DEFECT. These were announced, supported or upcoming titles at different points; they should not be treated as simultaneous launches or universal DLSS 4.5 and GeForce NOW availability.

NVIDIA says RTX 5080-powered GeForce NOW servers can provide up to 5K at 120 fps, up to 360 fps at 1080p, NVIDIA Reflex in compatible games and Cinematic Quality Streaming for improved clarity and text sharpness.
These are service-level maximums, not guarantees. The final result depends on the membership tier, data-center capacity, game support, endpoint, display, codec, bandwidth, latency and regional availability. “RTX 5080-class” describes cloud performance; it does not mean every subscriber is using a physically identical desktop RTX 5080.
The game is rendered on NVIDIA’s remote hardware. DLSS, ray tracing and other RTX processing therefore happen in the cloud when the game and service support them. The local device mainly decodes and displays the stream, but it still needs compatible video decoding and a stable connection.
Linux requirements and troubleshooting
NVIDIA recommends latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. Its approximate bandwidth guidance is 15 Mbps for HD/60, 25 Mbps for FHD/60, 35 Mbps for QHD/120, 45 Mbps for 4K/120, 55 Mbps for QHD or FHD at 240 or 360 fps, and 65 Mbps for 5K/120.
Bandwidth alone is not enough. Jitter, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, ISP routing and distance from the data center can make a session poor even when a speed test looks impressive.
- Confirm that the system runs Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or later.
- Check GPU video-codec capability and whether the display server matches NVIDIA’s recommendation for the GPU vendor.
- Update the NVIDIA or Mesa driver.
- Reinstall the GeForce NOW app after a driver update.
- Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Test latency to NVIDIA’s data center.
- If the app will not launch, use NVIDIA’s Linux troubleshooting documentation rather than assuming the game or service is unavailable.
Who benefits most?
RTX 50-series owners
DLSS 4.5 is the most relevant upgrade, particularly in games that support Multi Frame Generation. Test each title rather than assuming that every game supports the same mode. The best results generally come when the underlying rendered frame rate is already healthy.
Owners of older RTX cards
DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution may be useful through the NVIDIA app or native game support. Do not assume that access to Super Resolution also means access to 6X or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.

Linux gamers
The native beta removes a major browser- or workaround-related barrier. It is attractive for users with a capable decoder and reliable connection, but Ubuntu version, drivers, display server and codec support all matter.

Living-room players
Fire TV makes GeForce NOW easier to use on a compatible television, but the initial 1080p/60 SDR ceiling is significant. It is a convenience endpoint, not a substitute for a high-end PC streaming setup.
Players without a powerful PC
GeForce NOW can be compelling if you already own supported games through Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PC Game Pass or Ubisoft Connect and have suitable internet. NVIDIA says the service supports more than 4,500 PC games, but store connection does not guarantee that every title is compatible.
Performance reality check
DLSS frame generation can make motion look smoother, but displayed frame rate and responsiveness are not identical. Input response still depends heavily on the underlying rendered frame rate, Reflex support, system latency and—on GeForce NOW—the network path. Players who prioritize immediate response or competitive precision should evaluate the game at its base rendered performance rather than focusing only on the displayed frame counter.
Cloud gaming also introduces compression and network dependence. It is useful for avoiding downloads, patches and local storage, but it cannot provide offline play and may be unsuitable for unstable connections, unsupported games, unrestricted modding or custom launcher configurations.
Membership and cost context
NVIDIA’s Blackwell GeForce NOW announcement listed Ultimate at $19.99 per month or $99.99 for six months. Treat that as a price signal rather than a universal current price: plans, promotions and availability can vary by country and date. Confirm the live price on NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW page.
NVIDIA’s current requirements page says Premium membership is required for features such as 5K/4K/ultrawide streaming, RTX and 120/240/360-fps streaming on the native Linux app. Tier behavior can differ by device, so do not assume that a premium PC capability is also available through Fire TV.
Verdict: a meaningful upgrade, but not one universal upgrade
DLSS 4.5 is the more important announcement for local RTX owners, especially RTX 50-series users who can take advantage of the newer Multi Frame Generation features. GeForce NOW’s CES contribution is more about reach: Linux users, TV players and flight-simulation enthusiasts gain new access points to cloud-rendered RTX gaming.
The strongest fit is clear: use DLSS 4.5 when your game, GPU and baseline performance support it; choose GeForce NOW when you value access and convenience more than local control, compression-free output or offline play. Fire TV users should expect convenience at 1080p/60 SDR initially, not a cloud-powered 4K/120 replacement for a gaming PC.
