NVIDIA announced a limited-time Monster Hunter: World PC game bundle on October 23, 2018. The offer covered selected GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1070, and GTX 1060 6GB graphics cards bought from participating retailers—not every card using those GPUs. The promotion ended in January 2019, so it is no longer a current offer.
What NVIDIA offered
The promotion, branded “The Hunt Begins,” bundled one digital copy of the PC Standard Edition of Monster Hunter: World with a qualifying graphics-card purchase. NVIDIA announced it on October 23, 2018, and later said it had extended the offer through the holiday season. In that November announcement, NVIDIA valued the game at $59.99; that was the company’s stated promotional value, not a guarantee of its price elsewhere.
This was a game promotion attached to existing graphics cards, not a new GPU launch. NVIDIA’s original announcement and its later holiday update describe the offer.
Which graphics cards qualified?
- GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
- GeForce GTX 1070
- GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
The 6GB qualification matters: the promotion did not make every GTX 1060 configuration eligible. Even within the listed GPU families, the exact board-partner model had to be included in the offer. A card’s GPU name alone was not proof that its purchase qualified.

The retailer and purchase mattered too
Buyers had to purchase through an authorized participating retail or online retail partner. NVIDIA said it could not provide codes for purchases made through nonparticipating sellers. In practice, a buyer needed to check the retailer’s promotion notice and confirm that the specific card model was included—not simply assume that any listing for a GTX 1070 or GTX 1060 carried the game.
The later holiday announcement described the Monster Hunter: World offer as applying to qualifying graphics cards, not systems. A prebuilt computer containing one of the GPUs therefore should not be assumed to have qualified for this particular bundle.

Dates, code limits, and redemption
Under the cited North American terms, the offer ran from October 23, 2018, through January 7, 2019, or while supplies lasted. Redemption ended January 31, 2019. The terms specified one code per customer, for the PC Standard Edition, and said a code could not be exchanged for cash or other goods. Restrictions also applied to combining the offer with other promotions.

At the time, redemption required a qualifying GPU installed in a desktop or laptop. The buyer obtained a promotional code from the retailer, used NVIDIA’s Redemption Portal, and completed its hardware check and any prompted game-store activation steps. The participant also had to meet the game’s age requirement. The offer’s published purchase and redemption periods have passed; these are historical steps, not instructions for claiming a code today. Regional rules varied. The terms warned that some coupons had to be redeemed in the country or region where they were purchased. The North American terms described worldwide availability excluding China, subject to other restrictions; that wording should not be treated as a universal rule for every territory. A code bought in one country was not necessarily redeemable in another.
What NVIDIA’s performance claims meant
NVIDIA paired the bundle with coverage of the game’s PC performance and recommended hardware. In its August 2018 testing, the company reported a GTX 1070 Founders Edition averaging 61.4 frames per second at 1920×1080 in its stated scenario. With an i7-6700K instead of an i5-6600K, NVIDIA reported 73.2 FPS for the same card and scenario. It also reported 60.9 FPS for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition at 2560×1440 with an i7-6700K, and 38.2 FPS for a GTX 1080 Ti at 4K.

Those figures are NVIDIA’s historical manufacturer measurements, not independent testing or a performance guarantee for every PC. The reported difference between the two CPU configurations illustrates why a graphics card alone does not determine frame rate. Resolution, settings such as volumetric lighting and ambient occlusion, resolution scaling, drivers, game updates, cooling, and laptop power or thermal limits can all affect results. Factory-overclocked and reference cards may also behave differently.

That is a separate question from bundle eligibility: the 2018 promotion specified participating GTX 1060 6GB cards. System requirements do not establish which retail models qualified for the promotion, nor do they promise identical performance across PCs. Consult NVIDIA’s test context and the Steam listing with those distinctions in mind.

- Assuming a GTX 1060 3GB qualified: the bundle specified the 6GB variant and eligible models.
- Assuming any seller or listing included a code: the retailer had to participate, and the exact card model had to qualify.
- Trusting an old code with a used card: a second-hand card may have no code, or its code may already have been used. The published redemption deadline has passed.
- Ignoring region restrictions: local terms applied, and cross-region redemption was not assured.
- Paying extra for the expired bundle: a listing’s old “free game” claim does not establish that a valid, unused code is included.
Can you still get the game?
The NVIDIA bundle is expired; the game itself remains listed separately on Steam. Any store price or discount is time-sensitive, and buying the game separately does not revive or replace the historical NVIDIA promotion. If you are shopping for hardware now, check NVIDIA’s current GeForce buying page for products available in your region. A modern high-end card is not necessary solely to meet the game’s listed baseline; choose a GPU based on your resolution, settings, other games, and budget rather than on an expired bundle.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: NVIDIA’s 2018 offer was genuine, but limited to participating models of the GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1070, and GTX 1060 6GB, bought through participating retailers. Its redemption deadline passed in January 2019. Treat old bundle claims as expired unless validity can be independently established, and do not pay a premium for a code the promotion no longer supports.
