nxmyogg.dll is an older Ogg Vorbis audio plug-in for Nero Burning ROM, not a Windows system file. If Windows reports that nxmyogg.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Nero installation that is requesting it rather than copying a random DLL into a Windows folder.
The file was used by Nero’s historical audio-plugin system to provide Ogg Vorbis support. Current Nero releases may use a different plug-in arrangement, so installing a modern version does not necessarily restore this particular file.
Identify which program is requesting nxmyogg.dll
Before changing Windows, read the complete error and identify the executable displaying it. The message may appear when you:
- Start Nero Burning ROM
- Open or import an Ogg Vorbis file
- Launch an older Nero component
- Start another program that retained a Nero plug-in reference
- Open Nero after restoring an old disk image or backup
Write down the exact wording, including any separate filename such as MSVCP*.dll, VCRUNTIME*.dll, or another dependency. A message naming a different DLL requires a different repair.

To confirm the requesting program, right-click its shortcut, choose Properties, and inspect Target. You can also open Task Manager, right-click the affected process, choose Open file location, and note whether it belongs to Nero or an unrelated application.
The safest fix: repair or reinstall Nero
The highest-probability cause is an incomplete Nero installation, an old plug-in removed during cleanup, or a Nero version that was restored without its shared audio files.
Repair Nero if Windows offers the option
- Close Nero and any Nero background processes.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Nero.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the affected Nero product.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test Nero again.
Not every older Nero installer exposes a Windows repair option. If Repair is unavailable, use the original Nero installer or licensed installation media.
Reinstall the matching Nero release
- Back up Nero projects and any custom audio-plugin files.
- Uninstall the affected Nero product from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the installer from Nero’s official support or from the original Nero CD, licensed archive, or known-good backup.
- Install the same Nero generation that originally displayed the error where possible.
- Restart Windows again.
- Open Nero and test the operation that produced the error.
Do not assume that the newest Nero installer contains every plug-in used by an older release. If the error comes from a legacy installation, the matching installer or original backup is more useful than a newer, unrelated package.

Check whether the repair worked
The repair succeeded if:
- Nero opens without naming
nxmyogg.dll - Ogg Vorbis files can be imported or converted where that feature is supported
- The same executable no longer produces the loader message
- Windows no longer shows the error immediately after startup
If the error remains, continue with the folder and quarantine checks below instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
Check Nero’s historical plug-in folders
nxmyogg.dll belongs with Nero’s application files, not with Windows system components. Historical Nero installations commonly placed the file in:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAheadAudioPlugins
Some older installations used a path under the Nero or Ahead directory, including an AheadSharedAudioPlugins folder. These locations reflect differences between Nero releases and are not interchangeable for every installation.

- Powerful downloadable software -- control panel software gives powerful Audio Enhancements and unprecedented control; Also includes optimized profiles for multiple earphone brands
- No drivers needed -- works straight out of the box
To inspect them:
- Close Nero.
- Open File Explorer.
- Paste the following path into the address bar:
text
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAheadAudioPlugins
- Look for
nxmyogg.dll, including the capitalization variantnxMyOgg.dll. - If the folder does not exist, inspect the Nero installation directory and any
AheadSharedAudioPluginsfolder belonging to the same Nero release. - Check the file’s Properties and location.
- Start Nero again.
If you have a trusted backup from the same Nero installation, restore the plug-in to the matching AudioPlugins folder while Nero is closed. Do not place it in multiple folders just to make the error disappear. A plug-in from a different Nero generation can be incompatible even when its filename matches.
If the file exists in the correct folder but Nero still reports it as missing, the program may be launching from a different installation. Use the shortcut’s Target field and Task Manager’s Open file location command to locate the active copy.
Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old plug-in. That does not prove the file is safe. A DLL obtained from an unknown source may be malicious, modified, or bundled with unwanted software.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To inspect Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand entries related to Nero or
nxmyogg.dll. - Read the detection name, file path, and action taken.
- Restore the file only if it came from your original Nero media, official Nero installer, or a known-good personal backup.
- Scan the restored file and the entire Nero installation folder.
- Launch Nero only after the scan completes.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined threat can cause Defender to detect it again. Do not override a malware detection merely because Nero displays a missing-file message. If the file came from an unknown DLL download site, remove it and reinstall Nero from a trusted source instead.
Check Nero and plug-in compatibility
There is no authoritative basis for treating one publicly listed version, file size, hash, or architecture as definitive for every Nero installation. Historical listings disagree, and an old plug-in can be tied to a particular Nero generation.
Check these points:
- Is the installed Nero version the same generation that originally used the plug-in?
- Did you restore the DLL from the same Nero disc, backup, or installer family?
- Is Nero 32-bit or 64-bit?
- Is the plug-in compatible with that Nero release?
- Did the error begin after moving Nero to another drive?
- Did a disk cleanup remove shared application files?
- Did a backup restore the program executable but not its shared folders?
A 64-bit Windows installation does not mean the file belongs in both System32 and SysWOW64. Those directories are Windows component locations, not Nero’s audio-plugin directory. The relevant compatibility is between Nero, its plug-in, and the application architecture.
If you no longer need Ogg Vorbis support, uninstalling the obsolete Nero component may be safer than preserving a broken legacy plug-in. If you still need Nero for other work, reinstall the complete supported application rather than replacing one file in isolation.
Install a Visual C++ runtime only for a separate runtime error
A missing nxmyogg.dll message is not normally repaired by installing Visual C++ Redistributable packages. Consider this step only if the complete error names a Microsoft runtime such as:

MSVCP*.dllMSVCR*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dll
Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. Match the package architecture to the affected application. An older 32-bit Nero program on 64-bit Windows may require the x86 package.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program again.
- Check whether the error now names
nxmyogg.dllspecifically. - If it does, return to the Nero repair steps. The runtime installation does not recreate the Nero plug-in.
Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is failing
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a third-party Nero plug-in, so they are secondary checks rather than the main solution.
Run them if several Windows features are malfunctioning, Windows Update is failing, or other built-in components report corruption.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Nero again.
Microsoft’s procedure runs DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the Windows component store that SFC uses. If both commands complete successfully but Nero still reports nxmyogg.dll, repair Nero instead of repeating Windows scans.
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed becomes the problem, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and identify what needs attention; its repair functions require the full version. Reinstalling the Nero program remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to Nero.
Update or reinstall drivers only for a driver-specific error
Nothing about nxmyogg.dll identifies it as an optical-drive, sound-card, or other hardware driver. Do not reinstall drivers merely because Nero burns discs or handles audio.
Use Device Manager only when the complete error names a driver or the hardware itself is malfunctioning.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as DVD/CD-ROM drives, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider and status.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver supplied by the hardware manufacturer or Windows Update.
- Restart Windows and test the hardware separately from Nero.
If a driver update leaves you comparing many device versions manually, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers are stale; installation of updates is completed with the full version. This is not a substitute for repairing Nero when nxmyogg.dll is the only error.
When reinstalling Nero does not fix the error
Work through these checks in order.
Find duplicate Nero installations
Search File Explorer for:
nxmyogg.dll
Also search for Nero executables such as Nero.exe. If there are several installations, the shortcut may launch an older copy whose plug-in directory is empty.

If Nero crashes without a useful dialog:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failure.
- Note the faulting application name, faulting module, and any additional dependency.
If Event Viewer identifies another module, follow that module’s repair path. A failure involving nxmyogg.dll may be caused by an incompatible plug-in or another missing dependency rather than a missing file.
Test with security software temporarily isolated
Do not permanently disable protection. Instead, use Windows Security’s Protection history and scan results to determine whether the file was blocked. If the trusted original file is repeatedly quarantined, leave it isolated and contact the software vendor or use a supported Nero release rather than forcing an exclusion.
Use System Restore only for a recent regression
System Restore is reasonable when the file worked recently and a suitable restore point exists.
- Search Start for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review affected programs before confirming.
- Restart and test Nero.
System Restore should not be the first-line replacement for a missing legacy application file, and it may not restore personal documents or every application component.

What not to do
Do not copy nxmyogg.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose DLL storage. Copying the file there can hide the real installation problem and expose Windows to an untrusted binary.
Do not run regsvr32 nxmyogg.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer or DllInstall, commonly COM and ActiveX components. An ordinary Nero audio plug-in is not installed by running:
regsvr32 nxmyogg.dll
The command will usually produce a registration error or accomplish nothing useful. Put a trusted plug-in in the matching Nero AudioPlugins directory instead.

Do not download the first matching DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a mismatched build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not belong to your Nero release. Even a clean file may not fix the missing folder, broken installer, or incorrect Nero shortcut that caused the error.

FAQ
Is nxmyogg.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with the older Nero Burning ROM Ogg Vorbis plug-in system, not Windows, DirectX, .NET, a Microsoft Visual C++ package, or a standard driver.
Does Nero still use nxmyogg.dll?
The file is associated with historical Nero releases. Current Nero versions may use a different plug-in system or may not include this exact file.
Should I download nxmyogg.dll from a DLL website?
No. Use the original Nero installer, licensed media, or a trusted backup from the same release. A random download can be unsafe or incompatible.
Why does Nero start but fail when I open an Ogg file?
The plug-in may be missing, in the wrong AudioPlugins folder, incompatible with the Nero version, or unable to handle that file’s format. That is different from a general Windows DLL problem.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
Only if the complete error separately names a Visual C++ runtime dependency. It will not normally recreate nxmyogg.dll.
Is nxmyogg.dll a 32-bit or 64-bit file?
A definitive architecture cannot be established from the filename alone. Match the plug-in to the Nero release that supplied it, and do not infer its destination from whether Windows is 64-bit.
What if I no longer use Nero?
Uninstall the obsolete Nero installation and remove its startup references. If another program still reports the file, inspect that program’s executable path and reinstall or remove the program that is actually requesting it.
