NYT Connections #768 was the puzzle for Friday, July 18, 2025—not a later July 18 edition. It gave players 16 words to divide into four groups of four. Use the hint ladder below to stop before spoilers, or continue for the complete answer key.
Spoiler warning: The category names, word groups and explanations below reveal the answers.
How NYT Connections #768 works
The grid contains 16 words. Select four that share a connection and submit them as a group. A wrong group costs one of four available lives; four mistakes end the game. Because some words can plausibly belong to more than one group, shuffling the grid can make hidden links easier to see.
Light hints for Friday, July 18
Category-level nudges
- One group is about things arranged one after another.
- One group involves understanding or noticing something.
- One group names flexible yoga positions involving the back and spine.
- For the last group, think of words that can follow “electric.” The words “blue,” “sheep” and “pen” point toward the same missing word.
One-word clues
- Sequence group: RUN
- “Pick up on” group: CATCH
- Yoga group: WHEEL
- “Electric ___” group: SLIDE

Complete answers for Connections #768
| Color | Category | Words | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | SEQUENCE | RUN, SERIES, STREAK, STRING | Each can describe a sequence or succession. |
| Green | PICK UP ON | CATCH, NOTE, SEE, SPOT | Each can mean notice, understand or detect something. |
| Blue | YOGA BACKBENDS | BRIDGE, COBRA, COW, WHEEL | All are names used for yoga backbend poses. |
| Purple | ELECTRIC ___ | BLANKET, EEL, GUITAR, SLIDE | Each completes a familiar phrase beginning with “electric.” |
Why the grid can feel misleading
SEE, SPOT, RUN and CATCH look tempting as a group, but the intended “pick up on” set uses NOTE instead of RUN. Once CATCH, NOTE, SEE and SPOT are removed, RUN fits naturally with SERIES, STREAK and STRING under SEQUENCE.
#1 Best Overall
The purple category is phrase-based: electric blanket, electric eel, electric guitar and electric slide. The blue category is made up of yoga pose names, while the yellow group uses words associated with things occurring in succession.
