NYT Connections #811 is the Saturday, August 30, 2025 puzzle—not the August 29 puzzle. August 29 was game #810. If you’re looking for #811, its four groups are music genres, “not be good,” “do exceptionally well,” and contemporary composers.
Is Connections #811 for August 29 or August 30?
It’s for Saturday, August 30, 2025. TechRadar’s answer guide identifies August 30 as game #811 and August 29 as game #810. The date and number in the original search phrasing point to different boards, so the answers below are for #811.
One reason a date can appear out of sync with a player’s experience is that the puzzle becomes available at midnight in each time zone. TechRadar freelance pop culture journalist Johnny Dee explains: “A new NYT Connections puzzle appears at midnight each day for your time zone – which means that some people are always playing ‘today’s game’ while others are playing ‘yesterday’s’.” This is the journalist’s explanation, not an official NYT statement.
Hints for Connections #811
Connections asks players to sort 16 tiles into four groups of four. The groups use color-coded difficulty levels—yellow, green, blue, and purple—and players can make up to four mistakes, according to TechRadar’s description of the game.

Connections #811 answers
Warning: the complete solutions are below.
| Color | Category | Tiles |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Music genres | EMO, FUNK, METAL, POP |
| Green | Not be good | BITE, BLOW, STINK, SUCK |
| Blue | Do exceptionally well | EAT, ROCK, RULE, SLAY |
| Purple | Contemporary composers | CAGE, ENO, GLASS, REICH |
Why the trickiest tiles fit
ROCK belongs with the verbs
ROCK can look like a music genre, but in this board it means to do exceptionally well. It joins EAT, RULE, and SLAY in the blue group.
FUNK is a genre, not a smell clue
FUNK and STINK can both suggest odor, which makes them tempting to pair. The intended groups separate them: FUNK is a music genre, while STINK belongs with BITE, BLOW, and SUCK under “not be good.”
Rank #2
The purple tiles are composers’ names
CAGE, ENO, GLASS, and REICH refer to John Cage, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich. They are surnames, not ordinary words to interpret literally.
If you meant the August 29 puzzle
August 29, 2025 was game #810. Its groups were:
- Famous person: FIGURE, NAME, PERSONALITY, STAR
- Increase: BALLOON, MOUNT, MUSHROOM, WAX
- Places that sell gas: 7-ELEVEN, CHEVRON, GULF, SHELL
- ___ split: 7-10, BANANA, LICKETY, STOCK
