Hints for Connections #933
Try these clues in order, stopping as soon as you have enough to finish the puzzle:
- Yellow: The reason—whether real or merely perceived—behind an action.
- Green: These can help determine an amount or provide a reference.
- Blue: From JFK to LAX, these are the same for every passenger, regardless of the fare paid.
- Purple: You probably will not see these at a spin class.
Answers and groups
Spoiler warning: The table below reveals every category and word.
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | INTENTION | AIM, GOAL, OBJECT, POINT |
| Green | MEASURING DEVICES | CLOCK, COMPASS, RULER, SCALE |
| Blue | PARTS OF A FLIGHT | CLIMB, TAKEOFF, TAXI, TOUCHDOWN |
| Purple | BIKE ACCESSORIES | BASKET, BELL, RACK, REFLECTOR |
Each group contains four entries, and together the four groups account for all 16 tiles.

Why the puzzle is tricky
The sports-looking trap
GOAL, TOUCHDOWN, BASKET and POINT appear to form a sports category. That set is a red herring: it cannot be completed as one of the puzzle’s valid groups. GOAL belongs with AIM, OBJECT and POINT in INTENTION, while TOUCHDOWN belongs with the flight terms.
The less obvious purple entry
BASKET, BELL and REFLECTOR make the bicycle connection easier to see. RACK is the fourth bike accessory, even though it is less immediately distinctive than the other three.

The game presents a 16-item grid—words, phrases, symbols or numbers—that must be arranged into four groups of four sharing a property. The color labels indicate relative difficulty: yellow is generally easiest, followed by green, blue and purple. You can make three incorrect guesses; a fourth wrong guess ends the round. If one group remains, elimination can provide the final answer, but only after checking that the leftover entries do not hide another connection.

A practical way to solve #933
- Scan for clear sets without committing immediately to a familiar theme.
- Mark words that have several meanings, such as GOAL, POINT or RACK, as possible decoys.
- Test the strongest four-word category and remove it from consideration.
- Re-evaluate the remaining tiles; TOUCHDOWN becomes more useful once the sports interpretation is rejected.
- Use the final leftovers to confirm the flight and bicycle groups before submitting.
