FACE, IMAGE, REGARD, and STANDING can each describe a person’s public reputation or estimation.

Purple: endings that sound like “yuck”

The final sounds or spellings point to expressions of disgust: DYNASTY ends in “st,” ENGROSS in “gross,” GIMMICK in “ick,” and MILDEW in “ew.”

How Connections works

Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The New York Times says Connections is available on the NYT Games website, in the Games app, on nytimes.com/theathletic, and in the News app. Subscribers can also play the Connections archive, which goes back to June 12, 2023, according to the official Help Center.
