How NYT Connections works
Connections gives players 16 words and asks them to find four groups of four that share a common theme, according to The New York Times Help Center. The words can seem to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has exactly one solution. The color labels indicate difficulty: yellow is easiest, purple is trickiest, while green and blue fall between them.
Playing the puzzle or finding the archive
The daily game releases at midnight in the player’s timezone and is available free on NYT-supported platforms, including the web and app. The full puzzle archive is a subscriber feature for All Access and Games subscribers; the Help Center says it reaches back to June 12, 2023. NYT says the words and categories are curated by editors using the Oxford Dictionary.
