Hints for Connections #703
Try these nudges in order before looking at the group labels:
- Think about liquid movement.
- Look for Greek word beginnings.
- Consider characters named in film titles; Air Bud is an example.
- One group starts with a letter that is written but not pronounced.
The board has 16 words to sort into four groups of four. Some words can suggest more than one connection, so check that all four words fit your idea—and that the remaining words still make sense—before submitting a group.

| Reported category | Four words | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Absorb using capillary action | DRAW, PULL, SUCK, WICK | The guide groups these around liquid being taken in or moved through narrow spaces. The label is broad: the four words are not all precise scientific synonyms for capillary action. |
| Greek prefixes | HYPER, KILO, META, NEO | These are used as Greek-derived word beginnings. |
| Titular talking animals of film | BABE, BOLT, DUMBO, TED | The guide assigns these names from film titles to this category. |
| Starting with silent letters | GNOME, KNEE, MNEMONIC, PSYCHE | Each begins with a written letter that is not pronounced in standard English. |

Connections asks you to find four sets of four words that share a link. Because a word may appear to fit multiple themes, look for a complete set rather than locking in a pair too early. Check the four candidate words together, then reassess what remains on the board. The hints and reported groupings above come from the contemporaneous guide, rather than an official NYT answer archive.
